I know that these are usually used for LEO on a duty belt, but I was just wondering......

Has anyone here ever used a cartridge slide on a regular belt, perhaps turned around so that the ammo is concealed bahind the belt? I thought that it might be a semi-efficient way to carry a reload (less bulky than a speedloader, doesn't fill a pocket like a speed strip).

Thoughts, opinions? I have seen a few that hold 6 rounds, would be good for a snub.

I usually wear a 6-round "2X2X2" ammo pouch with a snap-flap just to the left of my belt buckle - this is a flat pouch that has a leather flap that snaps in front to cover the rounds from prying eyes and the elements, but when unsnapped presents the rounds in 3 pairs so that you can reload the chambers two at a time. I wear it in front so it is accessible to both hands, just in case.

Galco, Don Hume and DeSantis all offer, or used to offer, this type of pouch.

Another possibility is a pouch that holds a Bianchi Speed Strip oriented either parallel or perpendicular to your belt, which I've seen offered by Mitch Rosen, Matt DelFatti, and others - if you don't want to pay for custom leather, you could try checking the bargain bin at your local gunshop or cop-shop for a used "dump pouch," which was a flat snap-pouch that held 6 .38SPL or .357MAG rounds stacked vertically, and which would "dump" your ammo into your palm if you unsnapped it with your thumb and held your palm under the mouth of the pouch.

Thanks Kor, I had never even heard of dump pouches or 2X2X2's before. All sorts of neat (and pricey!) leather goods out there for the wheelgunner. I have even found a few on Ebay that look promising and possibly less expensive than the $40 galco stuff.

I carry 10 rounds of .357 magnum in a looped belt slide and on the outside of my belt at 7:00 for easy access with my left hand. Never noticed...
