I got a 20th Century case neck lathe a few months ago. I am using it for 6.5 CM brass. My question is do i ever need to turn the necks a second time or am I good for the life of the brass?
I have found that the brass can flow and I have turned the case necks on my match ammo a second time. The tool didn't remove very much material but it did remove some. I've also run a primer pocket uniformer through the primer pocket for a second time after they were fired a few times and got fresh material. So brass does flow. This was with pretty hot loads so your experience may vary.
A 2nd turn is needed after many reloads. But i dont bother. The power outside neck turners build heat in the brass while turning . Not a good thing, if you measure to .0001"
The 2nd turn seems to always remove more brass, when i did it.
Once turned I’m done.
And just to expand on this it’s because i spend a lot tuning brass and loads on the LR stuff, turning necks a second time adds an unnecessary layer of complexity I don’t need or know if it’s right but I trust what I see on paper.
