I was shooting my new 10mm carbine with some of my reloads. I was using 5.5 grains of w-231 under a 180 grn Sierra JHP with a Winchester LP. Sierra's manual says 5.8 as max.

The case I used was an older case and had finger prints (rusted?) into the side. Stupid me used it anyways Stupid new reloader trick. :( Learned that lesson.

Anyways, the case separated when fired and extracted. A piece of it is still in the chamber.

Any ideas on how to get that piece out?

Use a new .45 cal bronze bore brush on a cleaning rod.

Push it halfway through the case, then pull it back out.

The bent over bristles should snag the case mouth and take it right out.

Putting it in the freezer may do it if the brush doesn't work. Differences in expansion in cooling should loosen it.

Once again rcmodel nailed it. That's an old gunsmith trick taught to me to remove a 22 Hornet broken case. Usually a new next size up bronze brush will remove the broken case as RC described.

The oversized brass brush work well for this, BUT...

Fingerprints on a case should not cause a casehead separation!

Hows your headspace? What kind of crimp are you using?
