Anyone have load data for Missouri Bullet Company?
www.missouribullet.com/

In particular I purchased,

SoftBall!
.452 Diameter
.45 ACP
230 Grain RN
Brinell 18
For General Shooting

Load data didnt come in the box, and maybe its just me, but I also couldnt find any on the site.

Thanks!

ls0n3,

It's a nice bullet, and I have loaded it using various 230 grain lead bullet data from many sources. Really can't think of any bad results using it and Bullseye, Red Dot, Unique, 700x, Clays, HS-6, AA#5, WW231... Feeds well, and it's so easy to mimic GI "hardball" with many powders. Out of the powders I mention, I like Bullseye and WW231 best on the faster side; AA#5 on the slower end.

appreciate it.

I emailed them and this was the response I received from one of their reps.

"Well, I use 4.7 grains of Bullseye and it works well for me.

Thanks/Brad"

Not exactly reload data, but at least it was some personal experience and maybe use that as a reference to relate to other powders.

lyman lists the 225gr at 4.0 - 5.0

So I guess I can think of it as a range of 1 grain.. and 4.7 being 70% of that range.

I can try and do other loads, using 70% of the range for the other powders.
Wish I knew why lyman uses a 225 gr vs a 230 gr bullet

Don't Take it Personally

Well, not very many bullet casters will tell you how to load your own. They cater mostly to guys who already know what they want to do with it. Amoco doesn't tell you how to drive, right?

Seriously - the big companies that sell only bullets - like Speer, Sierra, Barnes and others - it's good marketing for them to tell you how you can use more of their product, even when you didn't know how badly you needed the newfangled ones. Traditionally, guys who cast bullets and do nothing else really don't publish load data and they don't have big marketing staffs. Missouri Bullet is a good example - Very good product - really very good - but their market is made more by "pull" - their customers telling them what product they want - than "push," which is what the big bullet companies do. Loading data is from the "push" marketing concept.

The guy at MBC was probably a bit surprised you'd ask and figured he'd be a nice guy and give you a clue. Don't sweat it. There's a lot of places where you can get more data than you could ever use, and this is one of those places.

Don't sweat the 5 grains difference, it means absolutely nothing in this caliber, especially for a cast slug. 4.7 grains of Bullseye is a nice start, and 5 grains even will get you very close to GI spec with this cast bullet. I think you are about to experience why Bullseye has been around for over 100 years, and a terrific match for .45 Auto.

Good luck

thanks. Yea I didnt mean to sound like I was bashing mbc. Was my first bullet purchase, and was based on others having good experience with them.

thanks for the replies :)

Yea I ended up ordering about 5 different powders to see which I would like best. Bullseye, titegroup, #2, 231, red dot.

No cast bullet manufacturor that I've ever seen who sells on the net provides load data.

Powder manufacturors do though, such as Hodgdon, Alliant and Accurate on their own sites.

Load data for Missouri Bullet Company bullets

Well, folks really shouldn't confuse us with a ballistics research lab. We make cast bullets and use most of the ones we make (the ones which will fit in the guns we have!) Any information we can offer is anecdotal or based upon personal experience. I do like 4.7 grains of Bullseye for the 230 grain SoftBall! bullet we make, although I load it hotter at times. However, I will not often recommend other than a reasonably mild load to anyone I'm not shooting next to at the range due to liability reasons.

I wish we had a staff which did nothing but research internal balllistics using our bullets, but we make cast bullets, as do so many others, and there are reams and reams of published data out there dealing with cast bullets. I mean - reams! So, I confess to some bafflement when someone maybe asks us for published load data for our bullets. We do have a link to Amazon's offering of Ken Waters Pet Loads on our website, which is something that I recommend people purchase. It has served me well for decades now for rifle, pistol, cast and jacketed and it a wonderful delight to read besides.

So, when I said "4.7 of Bullseye works for me" I was being very sincere. Perhaps I should have explained that we are a 4-person operation which stays very busy operating the business and there isn't a lot of time to do other peoples' research for them. But I offered friendly advice that I believe was good and valid.

And I am the owner of MBC, if anyone's wondering.

Best,

Brad

Do you have a Lyman's 48 or 49th edition? Use the lead bullet data...

By The Way Brad...If I was to order from you. How long would it be to have them in my hands? You will note I'm in Ava, MO

We normally ship next day. If we happen to not have the particular bullet you want, then up to 3-5 days. We have over 30 bullets in our line now and, even with three sets of Magma casters and sizers, we have to fight to keep up. Demand is unbelievable right now. But that said, our "staple" bullets are nearly always in stock. We probably have 125,000 bullets on the shelf at the moment and I'll make another 25-30k today and the same number tomorrow. And then Monday, our production employees will show up and make my numbers look puny.

Which bullets are you looking for?

Thanks/Brad

brad,

welcome to the site! Im guessing you prolly only get those questions from us newb beginning reloaders :) Guess I just wanted to make sure I could use virtually any generic loading data for a cast bullet with similar hardness etc.

Ha! For a 4 man operation you guys get stuff out quick! Got my 1k in no time!

again, I didnt mean to come across as bashing you guys, just knew other folks here had purchased them before and was hoping more would pipe up with their recipes.

230 grain load

Well, 4.7 grains of Bullseye does work very well. Take it hotter if you want (I sometimes do, as noted.) But I can't speak to other powders, being old and very set in my ways, I stick with what has worked for me for the last couple of decades.

Missouri bullet is the absolute best lead bullet company with an oustanding product. But why are your box colors KU red and blue?

KU Colors???

No, my boxes and label are red, white, and blue. When the paper company asked me for the shade of blue I wanted, I said "flag blue." He said "huh?" I said - can you see an American flag from your office and he said yes. I said - that's the blue I want.

I was recently surprised to learn that Kansas actually is off of probationary statehood. I was going to see what I could do to get their probationary status revoked and learned that it was too late.

Kansas is a failed experiment. Very sad.
