We've talked here about mailing a long gun through the mail to yourself or back to the manufacturer for repair. Also mailing a pistol holding the proper FFL.

I was in the post office today an noticed a sign saying it's illegal to carry a firearm into the facility.

So isn't this a catch 22? It's legal to mail one but illegal to bring it into the post office. A firearm in a box is definitely a concealed firearm.

So when you want to legally mail a firearm should you only use those private mailing facilities that accept mail for the USPS?

Read the first line of part 'A' again...
Basically, that's the story. There's an exception which will allow someone who may lawfully mail a firearm (which for a non-FFL means a rifle or shotgun only and only to certain addressees) onto Post Office property properly packaged for mailing.
