catching falling rcbs primers

Right, it's probably like the one in Otto's post #15. I hadn't seen that before this thread came up. It must be what RCBS is putting on the presses these days.

If the straw thing works, let us know. I'm not sure if you have the same long groove in the ram as in the older models.

My straw is .31" in diameter, got it at Arby's, fwiw
I got a chuckle out of this. I find myself measuring stuff around the house with calipers too. My first thought was, "31 caliber straw," and it made me laugh a bit.

A lot of Lee press' ARE drilled through the center of the ram and catch the primers in a tube at the base (attached) of the ram.

Lee Classic Cast Single Stage for one and Lee Classic Cast Turret for another...

"The Rock Chucker design for spent primers is crappy.
And the RCBS engineers decided to make it even crappier with the new Supreme. Unless you enjoy jerry-rigging, my suggestion is to shop for a different press."

Agree.

I filled in around my RC II's alum. catcher with epoxy putty years ago. That helped but sure didn't fix it. SO, I bought a little Lee "Reloader" press and univeral decapper die, mounted it with a hole through the bench top so spent primers go through and drop in a pill bottle. Works great and doesn't spill primer grit down the ram hole so badly either.

Liked the little press so well I got another to use as a dedicated re-capper with a Lee AutoPrime II. Love that too.

IF I ever bought another "big iron" press it would be a Lee Classic Cast. Stronger, more user friendly features and it contols spent primers too.

Why don't they just drill the ram all the way thru and use a catcher at the bottom of it?
I think back when those RCBS presses were designed, Bonanza had a patent on the drilled through ram spent primer handling system.

The slit ram also was part of the press priming arm system.

The statue of limitations has run out now, and everyone else is using it with various other methods of press priming arms.
Time for RCBS to do it too!
