Anyone using the RCBS hand primer, or any hand primer ever have primers flipping in the tube/chute on the way up? I can feel it catching on something when it does it. This leads to the primer being inserted backwards or worse, sideways. When they go in backwards, they feel the same but, obviously the anvil side out. That won't work I'm guessing. Sideways I can feel it but once it's partially inserted it won't come out of the shell holder so there is no choice but to drive it home, lots of pressure. I hate the feel of that. For two reasons, one, safety but also, with ZERO availability on primers right now, every primer counts! I primed 400 last night and ruined five by going in sideways. 3 9mm and 2 .45. Thoughts? Is this normal?

I use the RCBS hand primer. I was starting to have that happen with .38's. Just once in a while, but very irratating. I called RCBS and they sent me the white and black plastic parts that the shellholder goes in. They were worn and did not hold some shell holders tight any more as well. No charge, and they work great.

Also make sure the lid is tight. If it gets loose the primers can tip going in to the "tube/chute" where the rod pushes them up.

Could be worn parts.

Also, I found mold flash in one of my primer guides holding the two halves apart slightly.
Trimmed it off with an Xacto knife and works good now.

I also use a big rubber-band on the lid to hold it down tight while in use.

thanks guys, that is exactly where I started. I thought it was catching on the white primer parts, RCBS sent me a new one (free of charge) and same thing last night. It is mainly an irritant more than anything, I agree.

Mine didn't flip in the shoot but rather in the tray. It was rare but annoyed me. I noticed that the lid doesn't like to stay real tight giving the primers room to flip. It didn't take much to hold the edges down and a couple rubber bands did the trick.
