i have a springfield 1911 that i want to cc when i can pull off wearing heavier clothes. i want an in-waistband holster and i would like any recommendations on that and good self defense ammo...speer.remington,winchester?

beat me too it. Ditto on the supertuck
I like goldensabers 230gr but I have never shot them in a springfield

Gary Brommeland Max Con V for my IWB holster. That, and a good gunbelt like a bullhide belt from thebeltman.com will make even an all steel 5" 1911 disappear. I can easily conceal my 1911 wearing just shorts and a non-solid colored polo shirt.

My 1911 eats up 230 grain Federal Hi-shocks and Remington Golden Sabres. Never have had any trouble with either load. I've got it loaded with the GS right now, as that is all I can find locally. I'd love to try some Federal HST in it sometime.

I can get away with the full size 1911 in a Supertuck in shorts and a t-shirt. Just make sure you own a good thick belt. I got mine from CB when I ordered the holster.

If you want to try IWB without spending a bunch of money, try the Don Hume 715M. I have them for all of the full sized guns I carry. It's a good quality holster that has a reinforced mouth, something that's very important in an AWB holster.

I carry 200g. Hornady TAP, when I can find it. I couldn't find it a few months ago, so I ended up supplementing it with 230gr. Gold Dots. I didn't want them, but it was all the decent self-defense ammunition I could find.

I bought a Kholster for my PT745,but buying one soon for my PT1911.
Works great and half the price of a SuperTuck.

Great combo for a Springer.
I picked the Golden Sabers because they grouped the best in my Springer.

Everyday I carry a 5" STI 1911 in a Milt Sparks VM II, with a "The Beltman" 1 1/2" belt. It does not print and is very comfortable.

I had the Supertuck for my M&P and didn't like it at all, actually gave it away when I sold my M&P.

Bought a Milt Sparks VMII for my 1911 and it's the most comfortable concealing holster I've ever owned. I wear it right around 3:30 with a loose t-shirt without any printing at all. :D

Deanimator --

Does the Don Hume you mentioned have a leather guard in the back? I can't tell from the photos on their site.

I've tried 230gr Golddots, HST+P, and Ranger T , I think the HST will feed in anything FMJ can, but I love the way the Ranger Ts open up. Since HST is impossible to find Ranger T or Golddots would be your best bet.

When it comes to ammo semi-autos and the 1911 can be picky. The 1911 was developed to shoot Ball Ammo, not HP ammo so proper feeding can be a problem. Many of the newer designed 1911 pistols have addressed this and feed well but you will have to prove that to yourself by shooting many of the rounds you choose to carry.

I would say any of the "name brand" ammo company's "signature Defensive Line" will be fine as long as they feed without a problem. I carry 230gr Remington Golden Saber ammo in my Springfield 1911A1.

i carry a kimber ultra carry in an MTAC holster with remington golden sabers. gun feeds them with no problems. the key is a stiff belt. i have one from the belt man also.

I used a Bladetech Nano for my Hk USPc45. I looked at those Crossbreed holsters, but decided I didn't want to wear a whole slab of leather against me (It has that large leather backing piece). I really like the Bladetech.

ccw with 1911 is natural. They are so thin, that you really don't need to worry to much.

C&S made my 1911 holster, in front of me! It was cool, and I love the holster. Golden Sabers in 230 grain is what mine likes.

I've been using a Summer Comfort from Galco. It is a copy of the Milt Sparks Summer Special. It has worked well for me. Ammo is Winchester Ranger 230gr HP.

Federal P45HS1 for standard pressure loads or Hornady TAP 230g HP No 90958 for +P occasions. As for holsters, what fits me probably won't fit you, everything I saw listed are fine options.

I have been using a 1911 as my cc gun for over 20 years now. (I feel old saying that ) My favorite holsters are the Milt Sparks Executive Companion, and the Galco NSA. With either one I can carry in shorts and t-shirt. My current carry ammo is Winchester Ranger SXT, but that is because I was able to get a bunch of it for free a few years back. As long as it is good hollowpoints from a major manufacturer and my gun will shoot it reliably, I use whatever I got a good deal on.
