I just opened a new box of CCI 41 primers and noted that the anvil side of them is a darker bronze color while the cup side remains the same brass (gold?) color. The plastic tray is also white instead of the usual black. Has anyone else noticed this? Since I've never used any other CCI small rifle primer, I wouldn't know what those look like to see if they might have been packaged incorrectly. I have a brand new box of CCI 500 small pistol primers so I can tell they don't look like those.

If nobody else has run into this, I'll call CCI/Speer and check with them.

Follow up--I called CCI and they said to shoot em. The color may differ from time to time depending on the metal that they have at the time they stamp them.

Glad I saw your post! I'm at the end of my old pack of CCI#41 primers and will get into my new stock at next loading session. You've already brought me up to speed on this! Thanks.

No problem Mark.
As cautious as these companies are (should be) regarding potential liability issues, I'm surprised that they do this without printing it on the box so customers would at least know of the possibility. The CS person I talked to acted like it was a commonplace occurrence but I've never noticed it before and I'm sure I would have.

Reminded me of a few months back when I had ordered a few boxes of primers online and they came in a large box with some crumpled paper inside to cushion them. In shipping, two boxes had opened and dumped over 100 primers loose in the box. Unfortunately, I didn't know it until I pulled the large sheet of crumpled paper out and primers went flying all over the kitchen floor which is ceramic, so they bounced and rolled everywhere. I spent two days finding all of them and it was a couple weeks before I found the last one. I called the company and nicely told them what had happened and said it could've been a very bad situation if I had a small baby or toddler who crawled all over the floor. I suggested that they merely out a small piece of tape over the flap of the primer boxes that they ship so they don't come open. They didn't seem all that concerned but we're nice enough to credit the $18 shipping charges back to me.
I later ordered again and they hadn't taken my advice. Oh well....
