Thanks for coming back to the topic. Precisely BECAUSE availability is increasing, I'm asking about primer performance.
Sooo.... for those with preferences, I'm seeing:
- SP: Federal 100, CCI 500.
- SR: Remington 7 1/2, Federal 205m205MAR, CCI 400/450, BR-4 if you're feeling spendy.

What aspects are you looking for in a primer and what are you using them in? Equipment and caliber wise?

A couple of weeks ago I managed to get two sleeves of Remington LRP at our local Sportsman's Warehouse (there was a limit of two per customer). A couple of days later I went back and they were sold out. The clerk told me that they'd only received 1000 LRP primers! So I'd gotten 20% of their inventory. Those were the only LRPs I'd seen in two years. I don't think Cabela's in Lexington has had any in that time, they're always out when I check.
From the OP... my current loads:
- 300BLK, CCI #41, VV N120, Sperry 220gr and Lehigh 198gr Controlled Fracturing
- .223, CCI #41, H335, Hornady 55gr FMJBT and RMR 69gr
- 9mm, CCI 500, Titegroup, RMR 124gr FMJ and Nukes
For 300BLK, I'm looking for reliability, but more importantly, consistency because I'm walking a thin line with a 6" suppressed AR.

#41's are very reliable in my limited testing, but they aren't made to be benchrest accurate. They are made to ignite a charge and send a bullet down the barrel, and not slamfire or greatly reduce the chance of a slamfire.
Every primer I've used has gone bang, every single one in about 5K rounds loaded. Seat them to the bottom of the pocket and they should work. If you want benchrest accuracy you'll have to test in your gun to see what works best for you.

They all work, just some are different height and thickness so how much crush or how deep a primer is seated may effect performance as well as the individual rifles ignition may have a lighter or heavier firing pin spring, therefore just because Joe says his likes 41’s yours may prefer 400’s. Biggest thing is to be fully seated and maybe test the powder charge a bit and not assume xx.x gr will be optimum charge with that component.

For that, I have not had any problems with properly stored and seated primers, of any brand, in unmodified firearms.

I think where I'm arriving is: save all the #41 primers (have a few thousand) for .223 loads where they just need to go bang. Pick up some Remington 7 1/2 or Federal 205m205MAR for the more critical 300BLK loads.
Out of the 1000-1500 cartridges I've loaded, I haven't had a slam fire, or misfire, or dud yet. But I've only ever used CCI #41 and 500. I don't want to branch out, but feel like I need to branch out because that's what's available.
I'm the kind of guy that goes to the restaurant and orders the same meal every time.

I was fortunate that during the last shortage, I had lots of .223 ammo squirreled away, and 6K CCI small rifle primers. It kept me and my kids shooting when we burned through all except 6K Federal small primers. (I saved the Federal for the revolvers). The CCI rifle worked fine in autoloaders, but was sure glad to see primers starting to return last year. A friend who reloads commercially found the Turkish small pistol for $85 a thousand and we all bought what we could, they are also suitable for revolvers with "nice" trigger pulls!
Sportsman's is a couple hundred miles away, but when in town for other reasons I bought all I could when there, building up inventory of small pistol. They limit quantities, but I'm still buying when I can trying to restock large pistol, and small rifle for a comfortable supply awaiting the next drought. They seem to always have Fiochi small pistol, and they seem reliable, (my kids gave me 1200 for Christmas!)

For Cabela’s it’s best to check in store. I’ve found that they usually have more things in store than the website claims are out of stock.

We train service and therapy dogs. Socializing them is a big part of that, so we take them into stores pretty often. Bass Pro is a favorite for that since they always have kids running around, which the dogs need to get used to. So we go into our local BP quite often, and I ALWAYS check primers. I have not seen large rifle in there for years. Every other type are always there the last few months, but LRP's remain rare locally. I got 5K of CCI LRP's a couple of months ago for a net of $90 per K delivered. Ammoseek is where I found those.

It's the exact opposite at our local Cabela's. Many things that show "in stock" are, in fact, not. I've just about stopped shopping there.
Example: Their web site shows Remington 9 1/2 LRP in stock at the Lexington store as of 9AM this morning. I called to make sure they were actually there, and the clerk said that they have no large rifle primers at all. I haven't seen them there for at least 2 years, even though the web site periodically shows them in stock.
They have the same issue with brass. Various calibers will show as in-stock on the web site, but are absent from the store.
Addendum: I called Sportsman's Warehouse this morning and asked if they had any LRP in stock. The clerk said they had 3 "boxes" (sleeves). I managed to get there before they were sold and bought all three. So I have enough to last for the foreseeable future now.

Point well taken, venting on line from one screen name to another will certainly not change the price of a component, but one may get a lead to a vendor that has something in stock. If something is in front of me at the the store and I don’t buy it when I can then that’s on me.Yeah but “you get, what you get and don’t throw a fit.” Only sounds good, when you’re saying it TO someone...

I heard that Vihtavouri is getting into primers but that they are probably not likely to be online before 2025. I like the quality of their powder. Hopefully they will be another source of quality primers.
I’ve seen them in Cabela’s several times in recent months. Of course, having said that, watch the website as it updates regularly and if you catch them as Ship To Store, you can save shipping and hazmat fees. Large rifle primers come and go on there, but you should be able to get them in a decent timeframe.
One nice thing about Ship To Store is, you can buy say one pound of powder and even though it’s less than the $49 minimum for Ship To Home, it’s still free shipping and no hazmat.

If it says “Limited Availability” but not an option to order to pick up in store today, that seems to mean out of stock. When I search on the website and filter by in stock, I get far fewer results than what is on the shelves at the store. Working Ship To Store and looking while in store, I’ve ended up getting the things I’ve wanted one way or the other.

I stop in at any place I pass that sells reloading stuff, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, Academy, my local gun stores whenever I'm in the area. They've all had components, but none of them have all the components. Lately I've been buying on-line at Bass Pro Shop and having them sent to the local store without shipping or hazmat fees. It gets a little wonky at times though. Last week I bought CCI SPP and when I put ten packs in the cart, it said they only had two packs (200) so I went with that. After I ordered, I tried again and again they said they only had two packs again. I was able to order 8 total, 2 each time. Weird. And to top it off, when I went to the store to pick them up, they had all kinds of primers behind the gun counter.
I prefer CCI or Federal, but I hate Federal's super large packaging. Remington has been good too, but I'm beginning to loathe Winchester, especially those with the black guts inside. Once I run out, I won't buy any more Winchester unless all the other manufacturers go out of business.

I know nothing about these, but if they are legit you can probably sell what you don't need.
