I sure hope this hasnt been asked yet but when did cci change the color of their #41 primers from silver to brass color? The ones I have now look like Winchesters.

I haven't purchased any of them recently so have not seen this. Thanks for the heads up, I will see what color I get next purchase and report back. I will get them from PV most likely, either that or Graff & sons so they should be fairly factory fresh. I wonder if this is a move to compete with the others for a price point closer to everyone else.

Don't know when they changed, but they look nothing like my Winchester primers.

The CCI are bright & shiny brass and look nice. The Winchester look old & nasty to me. I only have the Winchester in SPP & LPP so their SRP might be different, but overall I like the way my CCI primers look a lot more.

Sure - it may only be cosmetic - but there's a noticeable difference between the two based on what I have. For a couple $ more (in most cases), I'd expect the Winchester brand to look better since it has a 'premium' price tag attached.

I will say that that Winchester gets a much higher % with the same side facing up in the tray than CCI does based on the few 1k boxes of each I have.

CMV, what I'm getting at is that the CCI's used to be silver and now they are about the color of the cases they're loaded in.

I just bought some #450 not too long ago - they're a nice silver color. I really don't know what the difference is or have any way to measure if there's much/any difference in how hard the cups are. But my load didn't change one bit switching from one to the other.

When you said they look like Winchester primers I immediately thought of how "icky" my Winchester primers look compared to any others I have.

CCI emailed me back. Here's the answer.

The color can change depending on primer cups available at the time, from nickel to brass. Nothing to worry about.

Austin @ CCI/Speer

There for a while I thought, well nothing but old age.
