I am new to CCW. I have started carrying a Glock 27 in a fanny pack. I have a bladetech IWB holster that covers the trigger guard. All the classes I have taken have us drawing from the strong side at about 3:30. To me a more forward carry at about 1:00 seems to print less.

However, would you feel safe carrying a loaded gun pointed so close to the family jewels? The holster blocks the trigger and I have been trained to draw properly.

What do you think?

I carry my j-frame airlite snub in an ancient IWB there sometimes, usually in the summer. Very concealable; I felt my 27 was too blocky to be comfortably carried there. A CTAC at 4 o'clock was way better.

It's not the most comfortable sitting down (the 1 o'clock position).

A few years ago (1997), I did some 'training' riding with an NYPD Narcotics squad. Most of the guys wore either their .38 or G19 OWB at 3-4 o'clock and had snubbies shoved IWB at 1 o'clock ("the New York Reload" before my very eyes!).

Very fast, but I wondered how much retention you had when you had to wrestle with someone face-to-face....

I do this with my S&W Airlight j-frame all the time. It's very comfortable when placed in the right abdomen area. Probably the best concealment for shorts/t-shirt carry.

As far as safety goes, a pocket-full of loose rounds has a better chance of going off than a round that's being protected by a steel or titanium chamber. If we get into safety issues like this we must consider this a con of a shoulder system as well. Here you have a firearm that's sweepeing anyone that's behind you in public, should you use the standard horizontal system.

I've been inside the intranals of both the Glocks and Smiths mentioned above. Simply stated, unless the trigger is being pulled the firearm is not going to fire. On the other hand, I would not carry firearms like my Ruger MkII's in this manner. Here there is no mechanical safety device that would stop a fallen hammer if exposed to a sear-releasing shock. This secondary device could be anything from a half-cock notch to a firing-pin stop.

I'm a fat guy...every time I try to carry up front...when I sit the gun pops out....so 8:00(I'm lefty) is for me.........as far as pointing at the boys.....just keep your finger off the trigger when you draw(the gun).......just like every other time you draw....unles you have an old POS gun,you should be ok...

I've carried a S&W 442 and BHP up front with an untucked shirt over it. No, not at the same time. It seems my beer gut's on my butt and there's not a lot of room back there for an IWB.

That's exactly where I carry my Vertec. I've tried 4:00 time and time again but 1:00 just feels right to me. I can work all day, no problems getting up and down and drive without moving it.
