I think we all already know what the outcome is going to be, but here goes... bad idea.

oh boy.... what a monster I've created.

I wonder if the guy I saw is on this forum? Man if he is he must be so embarrassed! (not to mention, BUSTED)

doubtful.... but anything is possible.

I voted for, "No, dumbest idea I ever heard."

but after reading this in the previous thread, I'm reconsidering:

My understanding is that every citizen has the right to make an arrest if a felony is committed in the citizen's presence. It's not an entitlement; it's a duty. However, as has been pointed out earlier in the thread, a citizen has to know where that authority begins and ends and also what the procedure and guidelines are.

Au - Au - Authoritay?

CFriesen - no way.

Did you catch the way that article tried to paint impersonating an officer as a good thing?

I propose a new Sticky. Anyone who brings up CCW Badges gets stickied to the top of the forum’s server farm and we get to throw old memory sticks at them.

Possibly second only to the asking Teddy to drive you home, on the list of Worst Ideas EVER.

I voted I Want one, but you didn't specify what I wanted it for.
Same reason I wanted a Nagant revolver, useless things are fun to collect

One thing that I have noticed though is the simplistic jump to the cop wannabe bandwagon

Some new CCWers are simply looking for ways to avoid confrontations with the general public and if you say it fact this seems like a not bad idea.

The second is the equally simplistic idea that the badgee will wear it proudly on his Kill Them All And Let God Sort Them Out t-shirt.

I have never seen or heard any advocate of the badges suggest that they be worn openly.

I have also never seen anyone produce a statutes that makes carrying a CCW specific badge in itself a crime or equate to impersonating

I would wear mine as a paper weight.
I think that that is a pretty good use for it if I wanted to spend $30 on one

I find the badges make the fairer sex swoon when revealed to them while out at the local hotspots. You know how women love a man in uniform.... No wait. That was my tricorder and communicator that got them all hot to trot. Or was it my secret decoder ring......damn I just can't remember which of my Walter Mitty personalities is the one that drives the girls wild.

"damn I just can't remember which of my Walter Mitty personalities is the one that drives the girls wild."

The decoder ring, I'll bet my Glock 7. They swoon for a double-oh. Take it from me. Only the fawning crowds of females did cause trouble when I wanted to go on undercover ops... I don't care what James Bond does in the movies, it's damned hard to save the world with a gaggle of gals nipping at your heels and genetically-enhanced teutonic chappies with submachine guns at your jugular.

My ex-wife was an EMT for years. When they responded to a call they wore either a black coat with reflective green/yellow stripes or in warm/hot weather they wore a vest the same color.

They referred to them as "Shoot me first coats/vests."

I figure a CCW badge falls into about the same category.

I agree with joab that it's wrong for everyone to assume that anyone who expresses any interest in these badges MUST be a mall ninja with a whole wardrobe full of 5.11 gear who drives an old Crown Vic. Granted that is probably the case with many of them. But the posts on these forums about the badges don't just say it's a possibility someone is like that. Everyone seems to think that you HAVE to be a mall ninja if you dig the CCW badge.

As for me, I'll just stick with my P99 and tux. I'm saving up for the Aston Martin.

I don't need a mall ninja badge. The ET's have already implanted my identification chip so that the CIA will release me after I'm taken into custody and scanned. The problem with this procedure is where they have to put the probe to do the scanning... :what:

:neener:

I voted "Maybe", but not because I will need one (My CCW documentation is in the way of a retired police officer badge and I.D.).

IF or WHEN nationwide CCW is opened up for citizens, it might be VERY wise to have some sort of easily recognized "symbol". It should NOT have the appearance of a LEO badge or shield, so a universally recognizable AND tamper-proof I.D. card (with a photo) might fit the bill.

Right now, there is a hodge-podge of CCW/CHL permits throughout the different states, and many of them are merely pieces of paper that can easily be duplicated or replicated. That would cause problems within the law enforcement community, since a permit from, say, Arkansas undoubtedly looks different than one issued in Florida. Add to that, a photo of the permitee on the card would at least discourage it from being used by someone who stole it.

"Badges? Badges? We ain't got no badges! I don't have to show you no stinkin' badges!"

Yeah... that blew me away.

I couldn't find the original articles that ran in the Modesto Bee, but they gave a bit more objective information. I was actually living in Modesto when this clown was "patrolling". Basically, he would pull people over on the freeway and berate them for their driving. When he finally got caught, the Court ordered him to turn over all his "equipment".

Considering the fact that 5 CHP officers were fatally gunned down doing exactly the same thing (legitimately) in exactly the same area within about a year or two of Ace's escapades, I'd say he was incredibly lucky to have escaped unharmed.

Some months later, Ace witnessed a fight of some sort. The Modesto Bee quoted him in an article angrily complaining that if he still had "my lights and sirens" he might have been able to do something about it.

As a side note, Modesto also had a "Superhero" while I was there. He was a teen who would drive around in an old police Caprice with spotlights and look for crime to fight.

Sleep tight.

*Edit: Found another article - apparently Ace was recently apprehended once again, by a citizen, for impersonation of a LEO. Some folks never learn.

Just a thought-what does this guy do for a living if he has all this time to spend being a super hero?
