As a lefty, the safety on the Bersa is a bit inconvenient. Is the Bersa safe to carry decocked with the safety off? It doesn't seem like this would make it any different from carrying a DAO semi-auto, but it never hurts to ask people with experience.

The trigger on my Bersa Thunder is so long that it is probably safe to carry with the safe off. I don't but then again I don't have your leftie-issue.

a lefty too

I'm a lefty too and that's how I carry it.
One in the pipe and safety OFF.
For such a sweet little gun why did they make the safety upsidedown?
I'd think righty's have the same problem. You can't just thumb it off.
Just my .o2 worth.

Just my opinion but any CCW gun that has a safety should be carried with it engaged. If it has a safety that will stay engaged, it is good practice to always check to make sure the safety is off before you try and fire it. If you get into the habbit of assuming that it is off safety because that is the way you thought you left it last, it may actually be on safe when you need it in an emergency. My Beretta has the same safety as the Bersa and every time I pick it up to check it or shoot it, I check the safety with my thumb to make sure where it is. I am not a wrong handed person so I don't the problem that you speak of but it is something to consider.

As far as if it is safe to carry this way, yes it is. It is too bad Bersas and Berettas and every gun that has this type of safety doesn't just have a de-cock only feature ala SIG. That way it could never be engaged by accident.

As great as the Bersa is, if I were you, I would consider another gun that would work better for your problem. Snubbies, Kahrs, and Glocks have no safety or decock to get in the way. SIGs have the de-cock only. Some guns like the S&W 3913 have the ambi safety also that might be a good choice if you can pack the little extra size and weight. The S&W 3913 packs well even though it is larger and heavier than the Bersa.

Rarely carry my Bersa - lives in a fanny pack. But always safety off.

If I draw I still ''swipe'' at safety as I would on 1911, BHP etc .. reflex ... so it makes sure. For me, the D/A pull is adequate for any ''safety''.

I am a little familiar with the Bersa. I'd have no problem carrying with the safety off. (As long as it was DA of course.) That SA pull is pretty light!

When I carry my Beretta I carry with the safety off.

I am confident that if I holster it with the safety off that it will not engage. Nor will the gun fire by itself. If you don't feel that way due to holster design.. whatever... then I wouldn't carry it that way.

I know that a holstered carry gun is probably better off without a safety but when it comes out of the holster (not for defense) there are times I like having the safety available.

I have never had a gun come out of the holster with the safety on. In fact, when I practice I always draw the gun from the holster just as it had been carried. So far... it's fired every time. - Round chambered, hammer down, safety off.

YMMV

Agreeing with what has already been said, the double-action trigger pull on the Bersa Thunder .380 is so long that Negligent Discharge isn't an issue IMHO.

I don't think of that lever as a safety. The only time I use it is as a de-cocker (which it is just fine at!). I never use it as a safety.

Like P95carry, when I carry mine it is typically in a fanny pack. Actually I wear it in front, so is it still a fanny pack??

Howdy you guys!

Oh, I've been here, just not posting extremely often.

Think of me as the oversight committee! ;)

Usually carry it in front weak side pocket, decocked, and safety off. Always has full mag and round in chamber. This is a really sweet gun, that I wish they would have flipped that safety around.
