BTW, this is the original 2nd pic I took....which is actualy how the gun comes out of the holster when being drawn....I didnt like the way the pic turned out, so I quickly snapped another pic, with the gun turned over....and the finger got in there. My bad.

also, I don't think I had my pants quite tight enough here, because the shirt is getting caught under the grip for some reason.

The rig:
attachment.php

This is a Tucker Gunleather "Texas Heritage" with a standard over-the-belt clip in front and a J-hook in back. I attached a holder for my BlackBerry (like a pager) to the front clip with epoxy. This hides the clip and reduces the bulk of having a second clip on the belt. I like Jim March's J-hook modification idea.

Just a quick few shots - P97 here actually .. taken in my ''office'' cum gun room, reloading room etc (chaos reigns!). I shall soon switch to T-shirt only mode (if this damn spring ever becomes summer!) and the M85will be similarly placed.

Soon also tho to try out my elastic wasteband IWB method with P97 .... this will allow for tucking in or not with T-shirt and keep piece tighter to me. I'll try and take a quick shot or two with Bianchi sho rig if time.

Excuse the shabby ol shirt!

Quick shots with Bianchi .... rather too quick in fact .. again cluttered room and tacky ol shirt - plus, on inspection realized I'd put rig's belt restraint loop in front of instead of behind my leatherman ...... normally would be set back a bit more. haven't used this rig since deep winter and transition to Fobus.

Henry I really like that setup...thats uber slick. May have to do that for myself. Like the idea of mounting your pager/blackberr to it. Maybe in this day and time the cell phone belt clip if you are that cool to carry your cell phone on your belt :)

Covered …

If I had a California CCW permit, I might wear something like this. For now, it allows me to answer the door while armed but without alarming any visitors.

The pistol is a Kahr Arms MK9, riding in a DeSantis belt-slide holster. It would also work well in a pocket holster. ;)

preventing exposure while carrying

I don't have a CCW, let alone a handgun (yet), but I've been considering the idea for when I do have one. I'm curious/worried about a couple things though. First thing I'm curious about...when using an IWB with an untucked closed front shirt (t-shirt), do you worry about not just printing, but exposing the butt when you squat, bend over, stretch/yawn, etc? What do you do to prevent this? Obviously you can wear an extra long shirt where this won't be a problem...but what else? Secondly, those using an OWB holster with cover (vest, un-buttoned shirt, sport-coat), do you worry about exposing the holstered gun when your covering opens, such as from a breeze, walking fast, etc? What do you do to prevent this?

Also, if for whatever reason you do expose your gun, besides merely re-covering it, do you do anything else?

Blue...I have accidentally shown my piece more than a few times...i dont wear huge shirts, and I dont even own a vest...So sometimes bending over and what not will expose the holster....The best way to stay out of trouble is to just nonchalantly cover it back up...dont act all freaked out by the fact that a couple people just saw it, and they wont get freaked out either....It also helps to always dress nicely....if you look presentable, and dont act suspicious, you wont give people a reason to feel suspicious about you. They will figure it must be legal since you didnt make a big deal about it, or they will just assume you are an off duty officer.

Ok I got a few more.

Here is my SteyrM9 in a Galco FLETCH lefty holster. This is what I normally carry...Which really isnt that often.

And here is a new holster that I bought for my Autauga today...I havent worn it in public yet...but I have been wearing it around the house and I am liking it a lot....Doesnt print at all, and I barely notice it is there. It is just a cheapo generic KNJ nylon holster for 32 autos...but it was only 8 dollars, and I love the way the guns fits, and the way it feels.

The best way to avoid this is to carry the pistol slightly in front of the hip, with a forward cant (pistol leaning forward, muzzle pointing back).

When bending, the pistol's grip would have to be behind the line of one's back in order to 'print'. By simply moving the pistol forward a bit on the waist, and canting the pistol appropriately, 'printing' can be avoided. This is of course personal preference, and will take a bit of experimenting in front of a mirror.

The same can be said for OWB, but of course the shirt will need to be long enough to cover the muzzle end of the weapon at all times. This is why I prefer IWB.

I made this picture this past winter. It works well with a sweater or sweatshirt. In the summer, it works equally well with an untucked shirt.

Hi all,

A friend of mine asked me to help her find a carry system for her off-duty weapon. She is having the typical femal CHL problems of the weapon wedging into her hip & a lack of carry options for when she doesn't wear a belt. I found this site linked in another thread & was very amazed at the concealabilty of Betty's USP in the bellyband.

If I may, I have a couple of questions.

First, what make & model of belly band is that that you're wearing, Betty (or anyone)? I have looked around, but have yet to find one that's black in color.

Second, if I can ask this w/o getting too personal (no offense or other undertones are intended by the following question), the belly band that you are depicted wearing is riding low on your hips, not around you "belly" per se. For a comfortable fit, you purchased a belly band measured for you hips as opposed to your waist, yes? I ask because this info is for my female friend.

Thanks in advance for any help,

John, welcome to THR! :)

Hoping my memory is correct here .... tho I don't know the make of the one Betty is using .. I have a ''Defender'' from Action Direct ... that is black. There is also I believe, ''Thunderwear'' ...... no links right now but if you Google these it should come up with something I hope.

Only prob I have had is ... wanting to wear it low but it creeps up .... it's somewhat in my ''reserves'' box these days.

There is also Smartcarry .... I think that is http://www.smartcarry.com/ . and that is a different deal but maybe worth consideration.

Betty said, "You can tuck the shirt in around the holster, but I didn't like the belt clips showing, so I made him pull his shirt back out."

The J-Hooks that are available from Comp-Tac work with the "Answer", in fact, I believe the kydex shell of the "Answer" is made by Comp-Tac.
