CCW holder killed during robbery

Huron Hospital is the name of a hospital in Cleveland. I feel badly for the store owner's family. I work SOMEWHAT close to that area, and it is a shame that this happened to a man that was putting back and investing in the community.

Another THR thread
It turns out the owner's name was printed in the paper among the other CCW holders a week before his murder, and he was shot without warning.

Yeah, publishing their names is harmless.

Sounds like a good lawsuit by the storeowners family against the newspaper! I mean, the paper willingly put the storeowners life in peril by publishing his name as a CCW person.

Any hungry shysters out there? Cause you know that the Newspaper in question has to have really deep pockets and an easily assailable posiion.

Please Lord, please.....:fire:

LoneStranger: such a lawsuit woldn't have any chance. It makes too much sense! If you choose to file a totally frivolous lawsuit... well that's another thing, BINGO you'll get everything you want...

I often wonder where all the common sense has gone. Drugs, Sex, Rock & Roll?

Jackthelad is right. Cleveland Huron Hospital is less than 4 miles from the shooting scene.

What an absolutely rotten day.

I'm going to drive by there today to see if there's still some yellow tape, etc.

Maybe I can get a better perspective of the shooting.

Edit: I live about 15 minutes from there btw.

Well, you know how some of the media and that ignoramous Toby Hoover will play this - " If he hadn't been armed no one would have died".
I think I'll end up in jail for battery with a licorice whip (or sumpin) the day I meet Toby Hoover.

Cleveland Plain Dealer

Bravo to The Plain Dealer. It is not easy making a decision that will provoke gun owners.

The publishing of the names of those who have been given permits to carry concealed weapons in nine counties in Northeast Ohio was a noble and responsible community action. Ohio legislators passed the bill this year giving an extra privilege to gun owners to be able to carry their loaded weapons in public space. That put each of us at an unwanted additional risk. The legislators did not provide a way for us to inform ourselves about those we feel put us at that risk. They allowed for the secret carrying of guns and kept the identities of those doing so secret as well.

Any privilege for a few Ohio citizens that affects the entire population should be public record. The gun carriers are not living in isolation. We have a right to know who they are so we can make informed choices. Thanks to The Plain Dealer for providing the service to all of us when the government refused.

Huron Hospital is Huron Road Hospital, just South of Euclid Ave basically straight south of the shooting scene...

the shooting scene is in the City of Cleveland, the border there is at 185th (plus or minus).

It's just west of Euclid beach Park (the old Euclid Beach Ammusement Park), and the neighborhood is......ummm.... aging I guess works.

they would have gone to Huron because that is the closest trauma rated Hospital in the area. It's a Level II Trauma Center. the next one would have been either Metro (a HIKE west) or Hillcrest a REAL hike east...
the next closest hospital (from Huron) would be University which isn't trauma rated (yet)....

shadowfane, who lives about 10 minutes from the scene

I have a question,

Is this the first use of a Firearm in a defensive manner in Ohio since CCW was passed? It's the first I have read.

DragonRider:
No, there was at least one previous defensive use of a CCW'ed handgun in Ohio. See this month's First Freedom, there's an entire article devoted to it (its not in Armed Citizen).
