Ok, I attempted to decipher the laws of Georgia for CCW and have an unanswered question. Also checked www.packing.org.

Myself and a buddy of mine (also a CCW carrier) are heading up to Atlanta airport on Wed to pic up my daughter. She is flying in from Tucson. Misses her dad I guess. Wants to join us on our vacation after all.

Anyway, I dont plan on going into the so called "Sterile" area. Just plan on waiting for her in the baggage area after she gets there.

I cant decipher weather or not we will be legal to stay armed in the airport or not.

So whats the ruling on this?

With all the post 9/11 worries and new laws relating to Homeland Security is it worth the risk to stay armed or join the sheeple for the time being and disarm prior to entering the terminal.

Keep me legal here fellas!

Georgia Code 16-11-127. Except as provided in Code Section 16-11-127.1, a person is guilty of a misdemeanor when he carries

To or while at a public gathering any explosive compound, firearm, or knife designed for the purpose of offense and defense.
(b) For the purpose of this Code section, "public gathering" shall include, but shall not be limited to, athletic or sporting events, churches or church functions, political rallies or functions, publicly owned or operated buildings, or establishments at which alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises. ...Nothing in this Code section shall otherwise prohibit the carrying of a firearm in any other public place by a person licensed or permitted to carry such firearm by this part.

This was the only thing I could find on airports or airplanes. I am not attempting to board an aircraft.

Georgia code: 16-12-123 (b) Any person who boards or attempts to board an aircraft, bus, or rail vehicle with any explosive, destructive device, or hoax device as such term is defined in Code Section 16-7-80; firearm; hazardous substance as defined by Code Section 12-8-92; or knife or other device designed or modified for the purpose of offense and defense concealed on or about his or her person or property which is or would be accessible to such person while on the aircraft, bus, or rail vehicle shall be guilty of a felony

I've been in the non secure areas of that airport on several occasions. I've always carried. I've never had a problem.

I've looked over the Georgia code with a search engine with the keywords: pistol, revolver, firearm, and concealed in the past. I can remember nothing prohibiting carry in the non-sterile areas of an airport.

As have I. Just wanted to see if I missed anything. Thanks for the input.

I would agree with treeprof, the terminal buildings are publicly owned, and thus off limits to concealed carry. Personally, I would rather err on the side of /legal/ caution and secure my weapon before entering airport buildings.

Thanks for all the inputs but it seems that I wont be going up to the airport after all. Travel plans fell thru.

The "Public building" statement blows.
