for those with there concealed weapons permit/license

do you carry one (or more) on you, and another in your vehicle? or do remove your main upon entering a vehicle and place it in a easier to get location?

im left handed, so getting to my hip from the driver seat dont seem easy. im trying to decide if i should use the same gun and just tranfer it to a determined location in the vehicle for easier/quicker accessability, or if i should purchase a seperate firearm just for the vehicle so as not to worry about beeing seen or having to be discreet when tranfering, as florida has no open carry (for the most part).

any thoughts?

or are there left handers here that feel that with practice it is just as quick/easy to draw from usualy hip location then anywere a firearm could be placed in a vehicle...

I carry 2 one on me one in the car / truck ruger .45 on me cz 7.62X25 in the car both with h/p ammo. I don't want to be removing my carry and be seen just my way:)

I know

that a lot of people frown on leaving a gun in your car or truck all the time. I am not one of them, I have several guns in each of the vehicles I drive on a daily basis. I always have a gun on my hip and a spare in the console of the vehicle I am driving. While getting to my holstered gun is not as difficult as it might be for you, retreiving my spare with my right hand, which is generally resting on the console, might be easier. Get a spare and keep it wher you can get at it easily. PS, I have tried the door pocket thing and do not like it as your gun is visible when the door is open.

I don't quite understand why so many people think they put those driver side pockets on car & truck doors for "maps" ??
Transfer your CCW piece, or carry an extra, that's merely user choice
Likewise for your optional passenger, their door pocket

I carry my concealed gun and have at least another handgun and long gun in the vehicles.

LEO's carry the same handgun both inside and outside their vehicle. Why can't you?
LEO's also have long guns in their vehicles.
As far as handguns. My idea of a house or car gun is it gives you the opportunity to carry a bigger, more powerful gun than you usually carry.

I leave my CCW on my hip unless I'm going on a prolonged drive, in which case I place it in the door pocket for comfort. As far as a second weapon/vehicle weapon is concerned, an AR-15 sits either in the trunk or in the back of the cab as a ranch/SHTF gun. Spare magazines for both weapons can be found in the glove box along with the rest of my EDC kit.

One on me, one in the door. I leave it in the door. My "map" pocket swivels in and out, so it really conceals it when the pocket is in.

Two words.Cross-draw.
I'm getting my CCW this year at some point, and I'm also a lefty.

I've been playing with different carry positions for my S&W 469, and I'm favoring the 3 o'clock cross-draw. Kidney carry (@ 7o'clock) is another I sorta like, but not for in the car. 9 o'clock carry is a bit restrictive in the car, but so is the crossdraw due to the seat belt. I'll probably carry a BUG (thinking a NAA mini revolver in 22 mag) and it'll be my dedicated car gun, then slip into a boot holster before I get out.

I have a glock in my console and a 25 in my pocket most never see them or know there there

I don't like leaving firearms in the car unattended at any time... but I tuck my shirt in on my IWB and carry openly with the butt adjusted for easy reach. There is no way can I rip the shirt up hard enough to clear the holster with my lanky keester holding the shirt down.

I don't remove the gun I carry from the holster when getting into a car. I used to do that but its to inconvenient holstering while sitting down and you risk AD. I keep a S&W 642 in the car in the center console. I have an auto safe too when I'm going to be away from the car for a long period of time or in an unfamiliar area.

Problem with that, and the reason I don't use the door pockets, is what if someone steps between you and an open door, say at a gas station. Now your gun is on the other side of someone wishing to harm you....not good.

I want nothing to be between me and the firearm, so I prefer it to be on the center console side when I am driving.

Also, I am right handed so if it's in the drivers door I am drawing from the weak side, another place I'd prefer not to be. I'd rather have my left hand free to try to roll up a window or push someone back while I draw with the more protected right hand.

In the door pocket seems a great way to transport, but a lousy place to actually draw from.

"if someone steps between you and an open door"

depends on how quick they can unzip the pistol rug and draw it
and how slow I am with the other one riding in my IWB
(the when-out-of-vehicle one)
and I do not leave my door open when pumping gas, anyway, never have, habit
I don't leave it unlocked if walking into quickie-mart for a soft drink either, love those keyring buttons

If you leave your gun in/on/near the center console, and your door open, and someone steps between you and an open door...
"I want nothing to be between me and the firearm"

rug unzipped whilst I am in car, and whether hard to fast draw from or not depends on how positioned, but when zipped and 'down' not all that in-plain-sight with door open
in door pocket does not have to be "see this, give it a try"

but you can pull the revolver from the door pocket with your left hand, and anyone approaching vehicle would not see your right hand ever leave the steering wheel
(the scenario supposed would not call for a 50 yard shot you know, and you can transfer a gun from left hand to right hand fairly quick)

just try to think more of it as "pocket carry without pants"
some pocket carry, some don't, purely optional, but for those that do, pocket style matters of course
same could be said of what style "pocket" your center console has, and whether or not you have it in plain sight or not

^ This. I really don't like to leave a gun in a vehicle unattended. If I get out of the vehicle for any reason, pumping gas, even just checking a load, the gun comes with me. It seems like a bother, but like any habit after a while you just do it automatically.

There are variations from state to state about carrying in a vehicle, so you'd need to check for specific laws.

642 in my pocket, a model 65 with a speed loader in the glove box and an SKS in an easy access case with 4 stripper clips loaded under the back seat or in the trunk.

My wife keeps a high power in her glove box and when she carries a Mak in her purse

I keep a S&W638 in my armrest. It stays there all the time. I spray it with rem oil from time to time.

i carry just one gun....i pocket carry in my right pocket, and before i get in my vehicle i take out the gun and holster and set it in my center console (its an open center console, so the gun is very easily accessible while driving.....its illegal here to carry this way in a vehicle *must be in a closed container like a glovebox or center console with lid*, but only until the end of the month when the new law goes into effect)

I do like most LE, I OC and I don't take it off, or leave it in the car. Only reason my carry is ever concealed is because I have a jacket on.

I don't leave the weapon in the car for completely different reasons than most, but they are private. Just remember, if your 16 year old gets stopped, and your "spare" carry is in the car and you are not, your child is in big trouble....If your younger than 16 child/grandchild is in the car and you are not,but your carry is, YOU are in even bigger trouble.

That is usually what I do. A handgun worn behind the hip (left or right) is great while standing and walking, but is uncomfortable and poorly accessible while sitting or driving. I devised a holster mounting for the inside of my center console storage box. An alternative is wearing it on the front of your body, either crossdraw or "appendix."

I cant CCW my Glock 26 into work, so it goes in my glove box while at work........

that is the only time it is off my person (besides when im sleeping and in the shower, of course :)
