Does anyone know much about / know anyone that has ever had to use the servises of one of these companys. (such as but not limited to CCW Safe, Second Call Defence, AC Leagal defence Network) It seems to me that most of the things they claim are to good to be true for the price of 80-400$ a year

I use Self Defense Fund: https://selfdefensefund.com/

Recognize that the number of law abiding firearms owners needing to file a claim is very small. If you are a prudent, careful, law abiding citizen then your odds of being in a self-defense encounter are really pretty small. Those are the type of people who buy this type of coverage. The yahoos who are irresponsible don't bother, and are probably irresponsible in all areas of their lives.

Thanks for your response I does anyone else use any of these companies I would really like to know.

If you already have your house and car insurance with the same company, you may want to look into getting a general liability policy instead. It costs me right at $400 a year and provides a million dollars of coverage for any number of areas (someone who slips on an icy sidewalk, my cat scratches someone, etc.) in addition to lawful use of a firearm.

The type insurance the OP is asking about is for legal defense costs, bail, etc. in criminal cases, and sometimes for legal fees in civil cases.

Liability insurance only helps you in a civil suit, and the extent of legal counsel it covers is what the insurance company puts up to fight having to pay a judgment against you. It has nothing to do with your legal expenses if you are charged with a crime.

OJ Simpson paid for his legal defense out of his pocket, and it left him broke. He used his umbrella liability insurance policy to pay off the Goldman's wrongful death suit filed AFTER his acquittal.

I am a member of ACLDN. I hope I never need it.

Some things I like about ACLDN:
They cover any lawful self defense incident, not just using a firearm.
You can choose your own lawyer, if you want.
If necessary, their experts will conduct an independent investigation and help your lawyer prepare your defense.
They provide educational materials to help you stay out of trouble in the first place.

The USCCA provides memberships with an insurance-backed benefit up for $1.1 million for civil suit defense and damages, criminal defense which includes an immediate retainer and bail bond. Because its insurance-backed, you get those benefits right away. I currently have the Platinum Membership for $347 annually, up to $1.1 million in protection, so I definately have peace of mind.

Read the terms carefully. most policies cover only accidental things. A self defense shooting is by definition intentional.
