I live in Indiana. I'm possibly going to be moving to KY soon (it's just 10 minutes away, looking at apartments on both sides of the river) and was wondering if my IN lifetime permit would be suitable since it is also honored in KY? What I'm asking is, will I have any trouble living in KY, getting pulled over at some point, and handing the IN permit over, when I have KY plates or a KY driver's license?

I realize you all may not know, given two specific states and a fairly specific situation. I just have to make a decision soon, which side of the river. I figured there might be some trouble, but anyone know any details about something like this?

If I move to KY, and I need to get the KY permit, I definitely will; but having a lifetime permit that I don't have to worry about (save getting into trouble) at all here in Indiana is going to hold a lot of weight keeping me on this side of the Ohio.

I think you need to get the KY permit as that will be your state of residence justa s you'll be changing your driver's license and plates.

Handgunlaw.us has some good information on reciprocity between states.

But you need to check KY law itself. Though KY accepts non-resident Indiana permits, that would be more like if you were a resident of MO and had a Indiana permit while traveling in KY. As a resident of KY they will likely want you to have a resident KY permit.

Where they get you is that your permit must list your place of residence. It's ok if you live in IN and that is the address listed on the permit and you just happen to be traveling through KY. It's usually not ok if you live in KY but have an IN address listed on your IN permit.

If it's no trouble, I would stay on the IN side. Where at in KY are you going? I used to live in Sellersburg on the IN side of Louisville for 5 years. I decided to move down the river to Evansville and have lived here for the last 14 years. Note which side I stayed on :)
