I have called 3 or 4 gun shops and they all offer the CCW training. It's interesting, some are $30 and others are $60. Some do the finger printing on site via an on site police officer and others tell you to go to the sheriffs office during scheduled times and wait in line for the electronic fingerprinting. Some do the photos on site, others tell you to go to Walmart. Some are 2 hours, some are 4.

I can't figure out which one to take or are they all essentially the same. I hear different things about the advantages and disadvantages but this is from the gun store selling against the other. Now that i have my Kel Tec, i want to go through the training, even though one salesman told me it wasn't necessary since i have my hunters safety card (a far cry from what they cover in ccw i would imagine, so bad advice).

The convenience factor alone may make the all-in-one class worthwhile. A dedicated CCW class should have much more pertinent information to CCW than the hunter safety class provided.

OK you get what you pay for. That said I would worry more about what is taught, how long the training is, and if you actually have range time during the training. I would go for the most comprehensive training you can find and afford. To me higher quality training is worth the extra cash. Try to find someone that comes with a high recommendation from a friend.

Above all do not go for the $25 GUN SHOW SPECIAL:what:

the difference between the $30 and 60 is fairly irrelevant to me b/c when you add the finger printing and photo id, etc. the prices are all about the same, but i am curious whether the content really varies that much or not. i'm not sure how to determine which course is good and which is not. as far as a friend, i do not know a single person who has ccw. I don't know anyone personally who carries a gun for that matter. all of my hunting friends transport rifles and hunting guns, but none carry.

Best I can give you then is for you to basically interview the instructor and quiz them about content, length of time, if training includes range time, what their qualifications are, how long they have taught.

Other things to think about:
Learn your state law (independent of instruction) you may want to start with packing.org.

If you plan on carrying you also need to commit to monthly practice and either join a league or commit yourself to annual organized training.

Good Luck

CCW

In Oklahoma City at H&H Range it is $60.00. The legal part is taught by an attorney. $25.00 for Sheriff to fingerprint, and $100 to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for a back ground check. 2 Passport pictures that can be purchase at Wallgreens or CVS pharmacy for $8.00. The wait three to four months to get your license.
