How about a S & W Sigma 9mm.

Seriously, they have got the kinks out of them.

Plus, you get tow free mags for a total of 4

Academy Sports has them for $299 plus tax in my neck of the woods.
(Alabama)

9mm, holds a lot of rounds, fairly accurate, reliable.......

Check your local want ads, trade papers etc........

I have gotten into budget guns lately and was wondering what gun I would carry if I only had $300.00 to spend

To clarify, is that $300 for the gun, ammo and holster/belt? Or just the gun.

I ask because there are both lightweight and heavier guns available for less than $300, but the heavier steel guns require a significant outlay for a good stiff gunbelt and holster.

I paid $275 for my 4" Ruger Police Service Six in .357 Magnum. 100% reliable, accurate, durable and a very natural pointer in my hand. Because of it's weight, I carry using a $79 belt and a $70 holster though. It conceals very easily and comfortably as a result.

CZ82. No question in my mind.
$220 from AIMsurplus with an extra mag. That leaves you $80 for holster and ammo.

Kel Tec P11, Makarov, Bersa, Rossi, some I can think of. There are some guns from Taurus like the new PT738 and the PT709. The Taurus revolvers are well out of that price point, but a used one is well under. I have a few that work very well for me. The Ruger LCP comes to mind. Ruger is known for high quality and low price, though the 300 dollar price point only applies to the LCP anymore.

That CZ-82 actually comes with a leather flap holster. In a very lenient interpretation of concealed you might get that counted as concealed (you technically can't see the gun when the flap is closed :)).

That said, to me the CZ-82 is a good gun, but a bit heavy for it's size. Better to look at one of the smaller pocket .380's IMHO. Similar power to the 9mm Mak, smaller gun, and MUCH lighter. The Kel Tec P-3AT and Ruger LCP both fit within the $300 budget. Taurus TCP and Kahr P380 are similar in class but cost a bit more. S&W is supposed to be coming out with their "BodyGuard" .380 concealed gun too. Jury is still out though on whether it'll be priced more like a Sigma or like an M&P though :).

I haven't had any experience with the Kel-Tec PF9 yet but it looks good. What I do have is 5 years CCW with a Kel-Tec P11. I have 2 and both have be absolutely dependable. Easy to carry fairly powerful and easy to clean, no issue at the range, both have never failed to fire or any other malfuction. I use 5906 Smith mags for 3 more rounds with no increase in telegraphing through clothes.
One of mine I did a carry package on, got rid of sights and filled with blanks, smoothed all corners milled guttersnipe groove in slide and Kel-Tec's belt clip.
It sets securely and comfortably in midrift even in shorts and t-shirt and doesn't telegraph through clothes.
I firmly beleave in practicing and training with the gun you carry and only carry the one you have total confidence in. Mindset, training and muscle memory will keep you alive.
And only $300 or less.

Well, I paid $270 for my S&W CS-45. But that was a once in a lifetime type deal. On a $300 budget, I'd buy the KT PF-9. again. and again. The best $300 new pistol I've ever had.

If size and weight are important, I would say P32, P3AT, PF9, or P11. All can be had for under $300, even retail. I've had personal experience with the P32 & P3AT and both are 100% reliable with FMJ.

If you can make do with more weight, I would recommend a CZ-82 (9x18) for ~ $200 + shipping & FFL (250 total?). It is a whole lotta gun for the money. Solid steel, higher capacity, & a decent cartridge with knock down. It can also be used as a last ditch clubbing instrument.

I have gotten into budget guns lately and was wondering what gun I would carry if I only had $300.00 to spend. After alot of research and alot of buying and selling I have come to the conclusion that you don't always get what you pay for. There are many "budget" guns that are very reliable and for the most part accurate for a service gun. If you only had $300.00 to protect your life, day in and day out, what would you buy?

lol. very true.

My first carry guns were the Makarov and the Kel Tec P-11. I would recommend the P-11 or the PF-9 if $300 bucks is all you have to spend.

Kel-Tec or LCP for sub $300. I own an LCp that I carry when the M&P or XD would be too bulky.

I also had one of the 9mm Bersas as one of my carry guns. The only problem with it is that accessories are non-existent and finding a decent holster is tougher than other brands. Mine was a little finicky about what ammo it shot well (accuracy wise) but it was always very reliable. The safety and slide stop are ambidextrous but they came from the factory with really sharp edges. A little filing and some cold blue fixed that nicely.

Jon, just a heads up if you still have your Bersa: Glock 19 holsters work wonderfully for the UC9 (or G17 for the fullsize Thunder 9mm). It's what I use for carry when toting the UC9 and the holster doesn't know the difference.

Thanks for the heads up buy I traded it off years ago. I just didn't shoot it that accurately. It wasn't the weapons fault, it was very mechanically accurate. It just didn't fit me for some reason. Now I carry a M&P 9C.
