With many states having CCW laws, and the one I live in being the exception, I was wondering. I'm figure that it may be the rule to have your permit when you carry, but how many do? Having been able to do so for 18 years, ( as LEO ) I wouldn't carry with out my badge/ID, in case something happened, and would need to keep from getting shot by responding LEO's. While I did a stint as a PI, many of us wanted something that would quickly identify us to responders as the "good guys", like a CCW badge. Took some time before the state agreed to the idea.
Just wondering......

Er ... yeah. I do. In my wallet behind the bit that holds my driver's license (but concealed and folded in a manner that makes it very unlikely to unintentionally display).

I would not wear anything to advertise that I was carrying any weapon. Concealed is concealed. period.

Carry your permit in a small leather wallet with two windows - one side the CCW, the other your driver's license.

Stay lucid, stay safe.

In Texas...

We are required to carry our permit on us if we are carrying concealed on or about our person, or you could be subject to license suspension or revokation. We are not required to carry our permit if we are not carrying however, it is a good idea to have your permit on you at all times.

I carry mine all the time in my wallet, but I don't think I would want to be readily identified as a CCW licensee. I agree with Carlos as well "Concealed is concealed" and that's how it should be but yes, you must carry your permit if you are carrying in Texas.

Take care and I hope that answered your question.

I always have the permit with me when carrying even when I'm wearing running shorts.

Carrying a concealed weapon without the permit on hand is not just illegal, being without the permit would be more than a PITA if the LEOs are trying to determine good guys from bad guys after a shootout.

As others said, you should be discreet with the permit; it stays concealed until needed and not used as a routine ID.;)

In Florida, you are required to have your CCW license AND another picture ID at all times while carrying a concealed weapon.

Learning how to deal with responding LEOs is something everyone that owns firearms for self defense should consider. The LEO isn't going to know who is the good guy and bad guy. If you're standing there with a gun, do everything they tell you to do and don't give them any lip about your rights or about throwing your $1000 gun in the dirt when they say "drop it!"

In FL you're obligated to carry the license, but if you don't it's only a $25.00 fine. However, I don't think I'd want to go through the hassle factor until I was able to prove I'm not a felon if caught without it.

My memory is that most reciprocal states require that the license be on your person for the reciprocity to be valid as well.

Idaho requires you to have your CWP in your possesion if you are carrying.

Mine is carried in my wallet, right behind my DL. It's also a usefull ID when dealing with the weanies at wally world! :neener:

In Washington state, carrying your permit is required by law any time you are carrying your weapon.

Since I don't always have my purse with me, I carry my permit in the back pocket of my jeans, along with my driver's license.

That a free citizen should have to go before a committee, hat in hand, and pray for permission to bear arms - fantastic! Arm your daughter, sir, and pay no attention to petty bureaucrats. -- 'Doc' in Red Planet, by Robert Heinlein

Ya, in Virginia we all get the CCW hat. It has a holder for your permit and you have to wear it when carrying concealed.

Actually in VA you need your permit and your DL when carrying. Many times the wife has left the house with permit, but no DL because she wasn't driving. Fortunately I'm along and my permit should cover things. ;)

I agree with Carlos. That's what I do. I am not so much worried about a small fine (I think Kentucky's is around $25 too) but the hassle I might get before they KNOW I am licensed.

I friend of mine (who lived in another state at the time) apparently flashed as he got home to his apartment. One of the locals called the police and reported a guy with a gun.

His door bell rings, two cops throw him on the ground and handcuff him, then demand to know where the gun was. He told them it was on the bed where he was starting to change clothes after coming home from work. He finally manages to tell them that the license is in his pocket. They look at it - tell him to be careful and leave.

I WANT the license on me!
