Florida CCW question

hello, I have been lurking about reading and finally have decided to post a question for anyone who is faniliar with Florida CCW laws.

I am a LEO in the midwest and am planning on going to Florida for vacation this year. Well not really vacation more like a honeymoon, anyway I waslooking at the information about the CCW laws in Florida and I am confused as to whether or not they allow non resident leo's to carry there.

What is confusing me is that in the Florida Code 790.015 it states:
subsection (1) a resident in the United States who is a non resident of Florida may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm while in this state if the non resident:

(a) is over 21 years of age

(b) Has in his or her immediate possession a valid license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm in his or her state of residence.

Which I obviously do, but when I checked with packing.com it states specificly that non resident leo's are not permitted to carry:

"Out-of-state LEO's have no carry privileges in Florida unless they are in Florida on official business" A direct quote from the site.

Any help in clarifying this would be appreciated. Thanks

An out-of-state LEO may carry in Florida only if he is in the state on official duty by his department. An offduty LEO on vacation can not legally carry concealed unless he has a Florida non-resident license or a CCW from a state that Florida accepts.

Do you have a license to carry a concealed weapon in your state other than by virtue of your status as a peace officer?

If so, and your state listed here:

Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or
Wyoming

Then you can carry in Florida. Otherwise, you can apply for a Florida license and carry on that (unless you want to depend on "professional courtesy"). A FL license takes about 2 months to process - I've heard it's much quicker for law enforcement (but that might be FL LE).

Ok, thanks for the info that explains it a bit better. Unfortunately I am not from any of those states so no luck there. I have already sent for, and gotten my Florida CCW packet. Is the form the same for both in state and out of state? I just want to be sure there is no problems with the notary.

And no I as much as I wish I could depend on "professional courtesy" I am not going to risk it.

Smart move, Hawkeye. From what I've witnessed down here there's bloody little courtesy, professional or otherwise.

Same Form

Hawkeye,

The forms are the same for residents and non-residents. You can have it notorized in your own state. I have heard there is a new form out since the Dept of Agriculture took over the licensing though. I think the difference is that the new forms request a verification of your address, but I haven't seen it. I also don't know one way or the other if they will accept the old forms. You might want to check into that. I suspect the worse that will happen is that your license will be delayed while they get the additional information from you.

I just got the forms from Florida today so I am going to assume that they sent me all the right forms. Buracracies NEVER make mistakes huh?

Thank you for the congratulations. I am looking forward to it as well. It took me long enough to find someone that would put up with my Hoppes cologne. Now if I can just get my Glock back from her before we go. She had never been shooting before she met me, now I can't buy ammo fast enough.
