My wife needs to enroll in a CCW class. Does anyone have recommendations on a good instructor? She would need a Saturday class close to the DTC area (preferably).

I have my CCW but I took the class when I lived back in Arizona so I can't give her any suggestions here.

I just took a class last week. It took it through http://www.safearms.com/. The instructors where ok but I was a little disappointed in the class. It was 4 hours and you just can't fit enough information into 4 hours. I didn't learn anything I didn't know before. On the other hand, I did "study" a lot before taking the class. I ended up with the Utah permit but it's honored here. The Utah permit is cheaper and doesn't put you into a criminal database like the Colorado one does.

2 places I know of are Paladin Protective Services and K2 Firearms Training Center.

K2 is where Foothills Shooting Center used to be on Jewell just west of Wadsworth and the range is pretty nice, but on the other side of town from you. The guy that runs it is an ex-Denver PD guy and they have all different types of training. Rental guns include Glocks, Sigs and STI's from what I remember. I spoke with the owner for a while last time I was there and he's very friendly and professional, likes to talk. The staff there that I've interacted with have all been very professional and straightforward. I don't know about their fees but they do have a website and should be listed in the phone book.

Paladin, (303) 918-4104 is in Littleton, their NRA Basic course (CCW-qualifying) is a one-day affair and goes for $125 plus a $15 range fee, you provide ammo, eyes and ears and the gun. According to their flyer thay have rental stuff available, but a limited supply. I spoke with their head-honcho yesterday and he was a very helpful and straightforward kind of guy as well. He said their instructors are SF guys from down at Ft. Carson. From what I remember about talking to one of the ladies that works there (his wife I think) they use an outdoor range that's out east somewhere. I'm not sure which one, but it's not the Cherry Creek range, I know that much. Mr. Reed (I don't remember his first name) will be out of town for the next 10 days or so, but I would think someone would be over there if you called.

As a side note, I'd be happy to do a little write up of K2 for your Denver shooting resource page if you'd like.
