I travel worldwide for my job (85%). During the course of a week, I can be on one client site, or 20 given the scheduling. In my course of work, a couple of the big companies I work for have notices on the door about "no weapons allowed". My question is this:

Even though it's private property, a lot of big companies have their work location in a not-so-good-of-an-area. Would you carry, or would you abide by the private corporation rule?

Personally, thus far I've been abiding (don't want to lose this job, and travelling with a firearm on through the airports is a big hassle). The other night as I was leaving a client's building in Memphis Tennessee (one of the most crime ridden cities in the south) the parking lot lost all of it's lighting (like a power outage). It was around 3am and I had to walk a few hundred yards without being able to see at all. Needless to say I was in high alert status. This client was a multi-billion dollar company, and two banks have been robbed recently on the same street. Everything turned out OK, but I hated the feeling of vulnerability and no way to protect myself. This led me to question wether or not I should carry to work. Most people would say "just leave it in your car", but that doesn't help when you're walking to your car in a large parking lot.

Thoughts appreciated.

No walking in dark parking lots

I have 1 word for you, Surefire! If you are out working at night you need a good flashlight. I carry at least 1 quality flashlight 24x7.

If you can take the hit from losing a customer if they find out you are carrying and assuming that its not illegal in your state, then go ahead. You might what to go small. A .32 or a .380 in a pocket holster is virtually undetectable (visually).

Not my choice

The flashlight's a good idea, I'll have to find a really small one that still lightens up the area (My pockets are stuffed to the brim as it is. Treo, RAZR, keys, wallet, laptop, etc, etc).

As for just doing it, unfortunately, I work for a fortune 1000 company as a traveling consultant, so the choice to 'lose a customer' isn't mine. If it was my company, I would drop them asap. But as it stands, I would probably lose my job if I was ever caught.

What I'm really wondering is, if I carried a small enough firearm, and kept it hidden. What are the chances anyone would find out? I guess the problem is that most people already know I'm a gun nut (the firewall on our vpn is inundated with THR  ) But that's not necessarily reason enough for someone to suspect I would be packing. I never talk to anyone at work about it, and other than THR I don't post pics of guns or anything.

Guess I'll just have to weigh out the options and take it from there.

the surefire G2 ( 30$) and Surefire 6p ( 60$) are both GREAT small basic torchs. p60 lamp has about 60 min of 60 lumens. pop in a p61 lamp assembly and you get 20 minutes of 120 lumens of blinding light

I've always taken the following positions.

1) I'll obey the law, but "company policy" is NOT the law.
2) Concealed means concealed.

Small bright flashlight, try the new Surefire L1 Lumamax, it's a small one battery flashlight, does 13-60 lumens and lasts 16 hours at the low settings 1.5 hours at the brightest setting. No bulb to break.
