Hello all,

I am the lucky owner of both an HK P2000 and an HK P2000sk both in .40 with LEM triggers. I live in a non-carry state right now but will be moving to a free state. I just recieved my P2000sk already and get to pick up the other gun on Sunday. However I have never carried outside of my house before. I live in the gun unfriendly state of IL and would like to know if it is reasonable to carry with two guns. I post regularly on a few other gun forums and would like to know if anyone here does it. If so what are all your opinions and how do you go about doing it. I havent ordered any holsters and will order some soon but am also looking recommendations. Thanks all.

Hi Gatman - success this time ;)

Ok well - I carry 16/7 and most of time just with the - SIG226 ST - but it is not uncommon to add a BUG also. That for me is usually a much smaller piece - my R9, which will either slip in a pocket or go in an ankle rig.

That said - and I forget almost every time!! - I do in fact have 2 most times - but other is 22 mag NAA mini - hardly know it's there :) So - add R9 and it's three!!

There are instances when I might actually all but ''double up'' - if having to be in a known high risk region. I would then add my 228 as well - this gives a double redundancy - and an ability for a 'New York'' reload - that's pretty rare tho.

My general risk factor tho is on lower side and so, even without NAA on board, the 226 and a spare mag still gives me 31 rounds to use - tho that said, I will hope to never have to have any trial run - at all.

Overall I think most folks only run to two on occasions when they feel it prudent - and much will depend on their area I think.

Oh and meant to add - quite a few folks I have talked with will slip a small j frame snub in as an ''extra'' - particularly this time of year when a coat pocket makes it so easy - and their 1º is somewhat buried!

Thanks for the reply. I am curious because I really like the idea of having 2 guns with mag interchangability. And I really enjoy the HK platform. I am also wondering how many people do this in practice.

Ahh yes - interchangeable mag deal. HK = good!

That reminds me that I should expand on the rare occasion I'll pick the two SIG's. Instead of 226 in 1º position it will be the 228 - simply because the 226 mags will run in it - unfortunately the 228 mags will not suit the 226 - too short. They both have CT's also.

Thus if 228 ran ''dry'' then either 226 can come out or - a 226 mag will drop in just fine.

Other big thing with very serious dual carry is manual of arms - thus two SIG's or two HK's will feel almost the same - better under pressure.

The R9 BUG is however small and DAO so - just keep pulling!

Virginia carry law limits each person to one firearm so it's a moot question here.:( Where are you moving to?

99% of the time i'll be carrying my S&W
65-3 and my 642-2.The 65-3 goes on my
belt,642 in the right front pocket.I also
have a reload of 38 +P's in my left front
pocket for either gun.I've never tried to
carry 2 full sized pistols but i'am sure it
could be done if you wanted to.

Once in a blue, I'll double up. Usually the BUG is significantly smaller, usually a KT P3AT, or Walther TPH.

It's not that common though. I'd probably not carry two service sized guns unless I was also carrying a rifle, and wearing armor.

On the occassions that I do double up, it's either because I'm going into the city, or because I'm already wearing the mousegun.

Seattle Washington is where I hope to be this September. If I get in to the University of Washington. Otherwise Texas is my next choice. But I really want to head out to Seattle and go to UW. The girl I am messing around with is probably going to head to VA so that is one of my other options.

P2000_357SIG.gif

Mine are hammerless (Variant 2 LEMs) and in .40 SW.

Anyways I consider the P2000sk to be about the size of a Glock 26 and the P2000 to be about the size of a Glock 19. I get to pick up my P2000 tomorrow and will have my own pics up soon. Either way I cant really afford another gun right now do to a college students budget so I cant get a smaller gun.

I think you will find one pistol is all you need . Unless your fighting Zombies or Mall Ninja then a coupe might be nice. I find my PPK/S or my J frame enough.as do a great many other people here and other boards.

usp9,

Not to highjack the thread, but where in VA state code is the carrying of only one firearm specified either open carry or ccw? (I've reviewed sections 18.2 and find no reference).

Thanks!

I carry on my Alabama CCW. It is an unrestricted ccw.I've always had an unrestricted ccw.I carry at least 2 guns and many times 3. Many consider this over kill but I have several reasons for deciding on this course of action.
One is Murphy has not only my name but he has my cell phone number and possibly has me GPS chipped. The second is that amongnst the people who taught me the art of gun fighting all carried multiple handguns, all had long guns in thier vehicles and they planned on the worst happening. They all were gunfight winners, not survivors but winners of multiple gunfights. The third is a second gun is the quickest reload around. As to reloads I have yet to see a shooting were there an average number of shots fired or evil doers faced. Criminals tend to run in packs these days don't plan for the average situation, especially average situations based on Law Enforcement averages.
I carry a 1911a1, a 3 inch m-66 and a kel tec .32, with 2 reloads for my primaries and one for my Keltec. I also carry OC, a cell phone, and a2 applegate folders. In fact the only place I am armed with only 1 handgun is when on duty.

You dress around the gun(s). CCW is more than just carrying a gun as a fashion statement or carrying it as a ballistic blanky. It is a serious lifestyle choice requiring committment, and understanding that you are preparing for the worst possible situation you could imagine. If you feel okay just carrying one gun that is fine for you, we each must make our own way and decisions on this matter. Just make informed decisions.

Any person 21 years of age or older may apply in writing to the clerk of the circuit court of the county or city in which he or she resides, or if he is a member of the United States armed forces, the county or city in which he is domiciled, for a five-year permit to carry a concealed handgun. There is no requirement as to the length of time an applicant for a Concealed Handgun Permit must have been a resident or domiciliary of the county or city where he or she resides.

When I read this part of the code it says "a" concealed handgun, I take that to mean one. When I applied for my permit is was explained to me that VA law meant One gun only. I am an immigrant from MD, where obtaining a permit is difficult at best, so when the County Clerk told me it meant one gun only, but it's easy to get a permit...I didn't argue.

I'll look some more for a clearer wording.

Good question.

I pack two

I carry a Sig P220 and a Kel tec P32.

My main reason for packing is protection of the family. Should a situation occur, my non-CCW wife would take the 32acp and head for cover with me making a path. The NY reload option is there as well however I don't really see myself needing more than 8 shots to get us to safety. I agree on the lifestyle and commitment aspect mentioned above. I carry all of the above summer and winter.
