I'm interested in getting a new compact 9mm for CCW.

I'm a LEFTY and I really like the 9mm for CCW.

Based on what I've read on THR, it appears the two leading candidates are:

1 -- HK P2000SK LEM

and the

2 -- WALTHER P99c AS

Any comments, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

:scrutiny:  :scrutiny:

What would be a good price for both the HK P2000SK and WALTHER P99c?

What would be a good paddle holster for the HK and WALTHER?

SIG P-228. Accept no substitutes.
But if other pistols catch your fancy ... I'm still not understanding how you concluded the HK P2000 or the Walther P99c are more popular choices amongst the THR cognoscente ... Good luck finding concealable paddle holsters for those beasts.

screw walther p99's, IMO. Sorry

How bout a Glock 26? or a XD 9 sub compact? Or a nice revolver?

Take a look at the CZ line of compact 9mm autos. IMHO they are the top of the line. Some models can be carried cocked and locked. Some have decockers. :)

Compact carry 9MM

I had and sold a 9MM Glock 26 which I regrit. I highly recommend this gun or any of the Glock line. Moved up to a G23 40 cal. because my two sons have 40's.

PS: For the 26 get a Pearce mag exstenion, Hog girp and a must have Milt Sparks Vera Max II holster.

Do your research and make your decision, but you best be checking out the Sig P239 before you make the final decision. I really don't know what could be better in the 9mm flavor for CCW. it is Light, thin, reliable, accurate, priced reasonable and rated for +P ammo and made by Sig.

Glock 19/Sig P228/CZ Rami/CZ PCR/ CZ P01

The list goes on and on.

I woud not go with a paddle holster for CCW. They tend to sick out from the body a lot more than a OWB scabbard IMHO

I love my P99c, and it does have a mag release on both sides, but the slide release is on the left if that matters to you. I dont know if maybe its reversible on the Hk or not. You should be able to get it for $540-600 in stores.

Opinions are like a*******. Everybody has one. Your two choices are excellent. Get the one that appeals to you the most and enjoy. By the way, I've been carrying an H&K USPcLEM.40 off duty for about 5 years and my agency is just converting to the P2000 .40LEM. As a lefty, I've never had any problem. As a footnote, any DAO design is fully ambi. Just use your left index or middle finger for the mag release or slide release. A conventional DA auto is almost ambi. You'd prob carry it with the safety off anyhow. If it has a decocker, use the right hand to decock. Bottom line is that you'll be fine with whatever you choose once you learn its nuances.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and try to actually answer one of the questions posed in the thread. P2000's are generally run in the 6-700 dollar range. P99c's are slightly less.

With HK I'd be confident buying used, but I have no experience with the Walther brand. Use Davidson's Gallery of Guns to compare prices from dealers in your area, as prices vary by locality.

Yes, go check out a Kahr. Handle it, rack the slide, and just mess with it for a few minutes. You will probably like it a lot. A very comfortable gun to shoot, and it's intended for concealed carry.

The KAHR CW9

Cheapest place here: ($360)

It's smaller than it looks, and it is still VERY comfortable.

The S&W 6906 worked very well for me. It's a little heavy for a compact 12 shot 9mm, but thats because it seems to be built like the proverbial tank.

Used models range $300-350

screw walther p99's, IMO. Sorry

Sorry, disagree. As said above, everyone has their opinions.

But, I had a G26 for 8 years. Got rid of it in favor for a P99c A/S - much better, in MY opinion.

Since you're lefty, I would go with the P2000 or the SK version. They're excellent guns! I trust my life to a P2K every day.:D

Yea, I was actually really considering a p99 but from so many reviews ive read and talking face to face with ex/p99 owners and the actual p99 topic that was brought up in my CCW class it was very discouraging. But like the saying goes, to his, his own or something like that.

Nobody can pick out your CCW gun for you, read the reviews then handle the pistols yourself and come up with what fits you best.. Or wait for the "new" 45acp XD sub compact to come out. hehehhehe . 9s will do the job but when your concealing a 45.... should I even go on??

I am a big fan of Glocks 19 and 26, which might fit your bill just fine, but one that comes to mind since you are a lefty is an XD-9. They have an ambi mag release and that might be just what you need.

Good luck!
