I used to read and post a lot, but I haven't been on in a couple months, just wanted to share 2 stories as I am halfway through my second year of everyday CCW:

1) Started a new job in September - nothing posted about CCW on premises - SWEET! Oops, in the employee manual, bringing a gun on work property or even work business (which could be while traveling) is grounds for dismissal (better than a felony, but still not good). Some will say quit - long story, but not an option. :banghead:

So, since I can't carry a gun, I started carrying my Ruger LCP instead... :neener: About a month in, for the first time ever, riding public transportation home from work after a late night (say 10pm or so), there were some unsavories on the bus that made me feel seriously undergunned. That along with the alarming amount of pocket lint gathering at the hammer making me doubt the LCP reliability (which has been stellar so far, but always clean), and I went back to my j-frame.

I have to wear dress pants, and while the j-frame in a Nemesis doesn't print at all while standing, it prints a fair bit when sitting, and unfortunately I do a lot of that - around others. So my recent compromise is to carry to and from work, and lock it up in a gunbox in my desk during work hours.

We have decent security (must have a keycard to get in), and while a co-worker could always flip out, the comfort of sitting in a meeting not worrying about being made and then fired, and the subsequent starvation of my family, is worth it as a trade off to me. At least I feel adequately armed when walking downtown and riding the bus.

2) Story 2 sucks. While carrying the LCP in a Nemesis pocket holster in that first month, I went to my kid's soccer game after work one day. At halftime, I kind of poked my thumb in my pocket to make sure it was oriented right - the holster was there but the GUN WAS GONE!!! :what::eek::barf:

I thought I would puke - 25-30 kids around, twice that number of parents, and here I sit with an empty pocket holster. I frantically but as discretely as possible search the area, no luck. So, I chance it and run back to my car - there it is, sitting on the drivers seat right out in the open, folks walking all around my car, thankfully not noticing. It happened two more times over the next week - no biggie because I was ready for it, but LCP + Nemesis + Loose Dress Pants + Driving was a disaster for me!! I went back to an Uncle Mike's, as it fits tighter, and I didn't have the problem any more. With a 7oz. gun, or whatever the LCP is, you really can hardly notice that it's in your pocket - which is great for comfort, but... Anyway, problem solved as I carry my j-frame now - very light scandium 357, but still twice as heavy as an LCP! My Beretta PX4SC (which I love) gets some weekend carry, but that's about it. :(

If you read this far, thanks. :p

Have you thought about ankle carry? With those somewhat loose ankled dress pants you can get away with a J-frame on the ankle effortlessly.

Even when I can't afford to be made, I still carry two guns and a reload for each. You just have to try different things.

There aren't any other holsters for pocket carrying your LCP? Maybe a wallet holster made of leather or something else that keeps the gun secure? Doesn't the nemesis come in different sizes? If you are using one sized for your revolver, it makes sense that your LCP would move around in it.

Also, there are some nice "tuckable" IWB holsters out there that are specially designed to make tucking in your shirt over the gun easier. I know comp-tac has holsters like this. I like their thin kydex design myself. This way you can completely conceal it under your tucked in dress shirt. (I'm assuming it's tucked in since you wear dress pants)

As Kind of Blued already mentioned, ankle carry sounds like the best option for you. Heck, get yourself a glock 26 and ankle carry it. Total reliability and great firepower with 10+1 rounds of 9mm. Can't go wrong with Gold Dots or HST.

FranklyTodd,
The Ruger LCP weighs 9.4oz empty. The S&W Airlite weighs 12oz empty. Not much of a difference there now is there? I don't see how you can say the J frame is twice the weight of the LCP. Even an all Steel J frame just barely doubles the weight of the LCP.

I agree a tuck-able holster might be a better solution when you are in dress cloths at work.

Think about a Rohrbaugh R9S. It's 9mm so you won't feel "undergunned", and it's made in such a way that lint and pocket crap can't foul the action.
It's a true pocket pistol like the LCP, and it pockets just as well as the Ruger.

Plus, Hedley and other holster makers have holsters for it that conform to it's shape so the gun just "falling" out of a holster wouldn't be a problem.
I've got all three types of holster for mine; inside front pocket, inside back pocket, and IWB. I always have a good way to carry it without worry no matter how I dress.

Yea, it's expensive, but ask your wife; if you had been killed in an assault because your LCP jammed from pocket lint, if she would be willing to spend $1,150.00 if that would bring you back to life.

Um, thanks!

Way to miss the point. You can google the stats all you want - I should have said "feels" twice as heavy. It's 13.3oz to start (M&P340, plus CT grips, plus 5 .357s might weigh more than 7 .380s, plus there's more material in a j-frame pocket holster than an LCP pocket holster). My whole point is, if the j-frame fell out, I would notice.

Thanks for reminding me why I got bored of THR and stopped reading...

As for Rohrbaugh, it had horrible reliability results at the time I looked (at least compared to a S&W revolver) - and money's no biggie. My j-frame cost close to $900 with the CT grips.

I thought some might be interested in my story - I appreciate everyone's offered ideas, but my point was, I'm now satisfied with my carry situation -- I wasn't really soliciting suggestions, although they are welcome. Carrying 24/7 with two guns plus reloads isn't for everyone - every now and then somebody needs to acknowledge that.

ask your wife; if you had been killed in an assault because your LCP jammed from pocket lint, if she would be willing to spend $1,150.00 if that would bring you back to life

With my 7-figure life insurance policy, I would be much too afraid to ask that question... :p Now if I were only wounded and she had to take care of me....

FranklyTodd,
I didn't get nasty with you so why did you feel the need to rag on me? I didn't google anything, I have the handguns I've spoken of except for the LCP which I have shot several times or I wouldn't have said anything. Seriously, there's no reason to treat anyone like that.

Really? You thought picking one word out of my post and calling me out as full of crap was helpful?

The Ruger LCP weighs 9.4oz empty. The S&W Airlite weighs 12oz empty. Not much of a difference there now is there? I don't see how you can say the J frame is twice the weight of the LCP.

That is your quote. I'm comparing two guns, and you fire back with:

I have the handguns I've spoken of except for the LCP

So, of the two guns, you have all of them but one? :)

Seriously, I'm not looking to pick a fight, or provoke any hard feelings, but being as generous as I can be your response was pedantic.

I've carried each model, loaded, with holster, for 16 hours at a time. The M&P340 w/CT feels significantly heavier than the LCP. It wasn't even a criticism of the j-frame, I love my 340.

Whatever your point might have been, it was lost on me (maybe that 9.4x2<12?). I felt you were calling me out on my "twice" as heavy generalization, so I fired back.

You can respond if you want but I'm out -- it's this time-suck of THR that made me go cold turkey and walk away! Maybe with your average of almost 200 posts per month, you should consider taking a break as well - it's liberating!

Thanks for reminding me why I got bored of THR and stopped reading...
I'm with Frankly on this fight....There are just too many times when taking issue with someone's data, we just can't help but take a dig at the poster.
Been there.....:(

Woolrich and 5.11 make some shirts that appear to be button up, but have snaps or magnets that allow quick access to a pistol. Some even have hidden pockets that are suitable to carry a light flat auto like the LCP.

I favor them over the smartcarry for a primary gun because you can easily present your pistol with one hand even when sitting down. I still like the smartcarry for a BUG.

What ever man, I wasn't calling you out but if that's how you took it, I feel bad. I would have even apologized if you didn't continue to berate me. You even left out half my sentence when you quoted me leaving out where I said I shot the gun I did own. I was only trying to find out why you considered the Airlite to be a hard carry, that's all.

Have a nice Thanksgiving...

That is only the second time I have ever heard the word "pedantic" used .

Sometimes it takes some thick skin to deal with the Internet Superstars.

My OWB carried 1911's get lint all in them, requiring regular cleaning even they have not been shot. All mechanical equipment that your life may depend on needs to be maintained.

Did I really just have to say that to adults? You guys are adults?
