Does anyone know anything about these?

I borrorwed a Sharps replica for buffalo hunting, and I'd like to own one. The $699/799 prices of what CDNN has are attractive, but I don't know who made them or how well.

I am actually looking at them in their catalog right now-- looks like a good deal. CDNN is great-- from my experience-- and they seem to try and take care of the customer.

I believe Chaparral manufactures their guns in Italy. In general if you're going with an Italian rifle Pedersoli is considered the best, and the quality tends to go down from there. Not sure where Chaparral stands in that ranking though.

Pedersoli is what I've used for hunting. Others I've handled have been the real thing.

Frankly, for field use at $699, I don't expect AAA walnut, perfect stock finish or wood-to-metal fit, provided everything is functional. I wonder about inherent accuracy (falling block internal fit, chamber cut, barrel quality), soft internals, etc.

Don't know about their Sharps rifles but the 1876's are reputed as decent guns. The wonderful figure their rifles sport is actually painted on, which turns me off. Most consider the Uberti's to be better but they cost more.

My Chaparral Experience

I purchased a model 1876 in .47-75 to use in Cowboy Rifle Metalic Silouette shooting and replaced the factory sights.

And I purchased a model 1866 iron frame carbine in 45 LC two years ago and used it extensively in Cowboy Action Shooting and had great success with it. Very accurate and smooth.

I visited the factory in Italy in 2009 and have since purchased two more rifles, a model 1873 SRC in .357 and a 1873 carbine in 45LC as well as two of their model 1873 revolvers.
