BATFE Entry

You can tell by the date on the photo that this picture wasn't staged for the contest.

It is just the way my desk normally looks!

Can I come to your next shoot? What a collection! BTW, nice to see another young shooter!
Sarah Brady is going to have a coronary if she sees these pics! Hmm, not a bad idea.....

Eaker,

The photo of your daughter would be most superlative captioned with the old gun grabber rallying cry of "It's for the Children!"

I'm waiting for the IRS to start raiding people . . .
The IRS has it's own investigative branch which does conduct searches, seizures and arrests, called IRS-CI (Criminal Investigations) whose Special Agents are GS-1811 criminal investigators. (GS-1811 is the federal job code for investigators, like FBI, ATF, DEA Special Agents, US Postal Inspectors, Some Deputy US Marshals, etc) They often go after violent criminals in organized crime, and many high level drug dealers. Often a part of criminal conspiracies the easiest way to make the case involves tax evasion and other financial crimes. It is not uncommon for IRS-CI Special Agents to serve high risk warrants, especially in connection with Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigations.

Well there seems to be much disinformation about LE and especially fed LE among the gun boards. I'm new to THR, but have been around 1911forum, glocktalk, and sigforum for a while. Here is another example:
I know there was some shuffling recently, but IIRC, the BATFE was/is the enforcement branch of the IRS. How about them apples!
and
Somewhere along the way, they became a paramilitary police organization instead of a revenue collection agency.
Congress has always granted various agencies law enforcement powers, because they like the laws they pass to actually be followed, and if not the law breakers punished. So ATF, IRS-CI, USSS, ICE (formerly US Customs) and the 70+ other agencies that employ law enforcement officers at the federal level didn't just decide to start performing LE duties, they were given that mandate from Congress. Congress likes to spread around the responsibility, because it makes it easier for them to control what laws get enforement attention, by controlling budgets directly. ATF created as a separate agency from the IRS because Congress wanted to ensure that the various laws it tasked ATF to enforce would not play second fiddle to other laws the IRS had responsibility for enforcing.

Yes, ATF was a Treasury agency until it's recent move over to the Department of Justice last year. However, ATF and IRS-CI are two separate federal law enforcement agencies, and that was true even when ATF was under Treasury. Since ATF was created in 1972 it has been independent of the IRS, and never acted as the "enforcement branch" of the IRS. As I stated in my previous post IRS-CI (formerly IRS-CID) is the investigative/law enforcement division of the IRS.

armoredman: Can I come to your next shoot? What a collection! BTW, nice to see another young shooter!

Yes, you are more than welcome!!! Wish that they were all mine and thanks, the 50 bmg and Sharpes 4570 are the only two that she wouldn’t shoot!!!

Here are some pages of past shoots:

Travis McGee: Eaker, that pic of your daughter is a MMM mass heart attack for sure!

Excellent idea!!!!

Ouch

I'm not sure if I feel worse for the M-1 or you. I guess at least you will heal. heck, you were able to keep shooting later on that day.

The 13th round of factory Winchester ammo was the last round fired through that M1.

The destruction was total and we have determined that a factory defect was the cause. I really should have gone to the hospital right then but I wasn't in my right mind (as if that is ever the case).

The next day I noticed a lump on my chest next to a 1 cm cut that would not stop bleeding. I went to the doc for X-Rays and it seems that a 2 cm long piece of the shell rim had out run the gun butt and embedded itself in my chest then the stock rammed it into the breast bone. It had to be surgically removed.

I need to contact John Kerry and see if I deserve a Purple Heart, as I was injured for more severely than he was even combining his three injuries and neither of us was under enemy fire.

Right, if you want to criticize and hate the ATF fine, but comparing those folks to the Gestapo is offensive.

Also, your little poster is a lie, because those people pictured there are NOT ATF agents. How can I tell? Much of the equipment pictured (especially the firearms, and ski masks) are incorrect for ATF SRT.

Right, if you want to criticize and hate the ATF fine, but comparing those folks to the Gestapo is offensive. I've worked with them, and have friends that are in the ATF. They are LE professionals that put dangerous criminals in jail.

They are not a threat to freedom.

Here is an example of what the ATF does:

I don't see any harrassing of law abiding citizens, but I do see professionals running good cases that lead to the prosecution and conviction of violent criminals.

Now chillun's, I know none a' yous wants a hickry' switch to the back of ya' legs...

Let's keep it civil. ;)

This thread is supposed to be fun.

See...

This is what we need around here: more people with a sense of humor.

DMF,

If you would like to start a fresh thread in the Legal & Political forum to discuss the BATFE, go ahead. Don't hijack this one.

Thanks.

More fun pictures, anyone?

I didn't hijack anything I pointed out errors in what people were posting. I notice you didn't admonish others that didn't stick to the original theme of the thread. Makes me think you have a problem with my opinion, not the fact that it is slightly off topic.

I hope you'll excuse me if the hat doesn't look quite right... I've made the mistake of wearing it out to the range, and a few other select areas... ;-)
