I'm located in Newark Ohio so some place close to shoot would be realy nice. I usualy shoot out at my grandfathers but the area where he lives is geting more developed. I would say by the end of the year I will not be able to shoot out there because of new houses.

Some place that I can shoot 200 yards would be nice but the longer the better. If some one just has a "hobby" shooting range they made on there property feel free to mention that if you would be willing to consider leting me shot there.

I'm not sure how far you want to drive but for indoor shooting there is The Powder Room in Powell and New Albany SHooting Range in New Albany (www.nasr.com). Powder Room is handgun only. NASR has an indoor rifle range. I've not used it but I doubt it is 200 yards. Any state parks in your area? I know Delaware and Deer Creek parks have ranges that charge a nominal fee--last time I went it was $5/day. The newest in the area is Blackwing Shooting Center. I haven't been there but their website lists indoor rifle range: http://www.blackwingsc.com/

Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Armedcitizen just about covered it for the Columbus area. The Powder Room has a 100 yard range in the basement. But, everytime I've been there it has been closed for one reason or another. It's an old range. Blackwing Shooting (new) in Delaware has several shotgun trap/skeet shooting areas outside. Since Ohio has restrictions on rifle hunting, I'm not sure you can find any long distance rifle shooting ranges. Nice pistol ranges, but nothing close to 200 yards.

The rifle range I shoot at has 50, 100, 250, and 500 yard ranges. But since it's in NW Ohio it's probably a bit far for you to drive.

I am a member at NASR. It has a pistol only rane of 50 feet, and a rifle range of 25 yards. you can see it at www.nasr.com .
Blackwing has the same, 50 feet and 25 yards, and can be seen at www.blackwingsc.com . I know there is some type of long range outdoor place near central ohio, but I do not know where.

I don't think they are ever going to fix the rifle range at The Powder Room. I go there every 2 or 3 weeks, for about the last year, and I have never seen it open. It is an old range, but the guys working there are cool & seem to know their stuff. They have 8-10 50' foot lanes and the wait for a lane is only usually on Sat & Sun early afternoons.

Its kinda hard to find, its in the middle of a housing area, and set back behind some trees & beside a restaurant. I think they charge $5/30 min. for non-members.

Hope that helps!

Humm. It seems like there is a lack of shooting ranges around ohio. Maby it is because of all the wooded area in ohio. I don't think I'm near any national parks. I may have to check around with some locals and see if any one has a large peice of property to shoot on.

Where is the one in NW Ohio?

You have one in your back yard and don't know it! www.briarrabbit.com is in Zanesville. Though you have to be a member to shoot on the rifle range the membership is pretty cheap. They have berms at 50 yds to 350 yds. I go there regularly for pistol matches and some sporting clays. Joe Wagner is a great guy too.

Where is the one in NW Ohio?

I belong to the Sandusky County Sportmans' Club, near a town called Gibsonburg. It is about a half hour southeast of Toledo. Membership is required, but the annual fee is very reasonable.

Yea it looks like the Briar Rabbit's place is the closes't available to me. Now I got to hit them up to see what they charge to shoot there.

EDIT: Doh! they arn't open on the two days that I have off. Says they will open any day of the week though if you have 4 or more people coming.

Depending on how far you want to drive, on Rt 26 north of Marietta is Ft Harmar Rifle Club. The range is open to members any time there isn't an event scheduled. There is an indoor range as well in Marietta. You can check them out at:

www.angelfire.com/oh5/ftharicl

The outdoor rifle range is near 300 yards, and I believe there are 5 berms for handgun shooting. There is a 200yd rifle match this Sunday, 4/24/05, as well as the monthly IDPA shoot.

If you shoot regularly, the $65/year membership may be well worth it, if you don't mind a 90 minute drive.

I'm keeping these all in mind because at some point me and the wife would like to get away. Depending where we go in the state there may be a rifle range near by.

The closer the better for runing out and just target shooting on my days off (thursday, friday). I'll talk to some locals and see if any of them have some peices of land I might be able to shoot on.

Let not your heart be troubled. Briar Rabbit will be open 7 Days a week as soon as school is out. Also a little known secret is that if you ask Joe he will let you in when every you want as long as you are a member. ;) Give him a call.

Ahh thats awsome. I will have to see what member ship costs because I woulden't mind making a trip out there every thursday or friday. Hey wate do you realy mean when ever? If so that would be sweet as I could grab some night vision stuff and night shoot :D

I came across this ad at the range today for Thunder Valley Rifle Club. Advertised as the 1000 yard benchrest club. I don't know a thing about this place, but maybe you care to inquire. Here's the info on the flyer:

This would be super fun. I wonder if they have target stands set up close than 1000 yards. I don't think it is all that far away eather.
