Decided to get an AR 15 A2 rifle. Wasn't really planning on it, but a buddy bought an AR carbine, and I decided I liked it.

I already own a Daewoo carbine. The stoeger imported version of a Korean K1A1, so I'm swimming in AR mags. I decided an AR long rifle is in order.

I called my dealer, and he has pretty decent prices on Century's version of the A2 rifle. Said they are mostly Colt parts, with Centurys own lower. Has sold quite a few with no complaints.

I'm self employed, not all that busy, and thought I would just take the drive to look at these rifles tommorrow.

I googeled "Century AR" and didn't find anything too complementery about the Century guns. However all the info was old, not too much about the 2008 Century AR offerings. Century's own website didn't seem to list AR rifles.

I've heard Century uses drunken monkeys to assemble their stuff! Also heard they use drunk, blind monkeys!

I bought a Century WASR-10 late last year, and it was just fine, just a very few minor issues, none of which were functional issues. Hoping the AR rifles are the same.

Any useful info to add about Century AR rifles?

I just became a 'member of the AR club.' After lots of research, I found building a rifle from a kit to be my best option. I bought a lower from a local shop, and a kit from an online distributor. The upper came completely assembled and head spaced, just needed to be a attached to my lower. I feel the quality of the components is better than the Century built gun I handled. Costs were on an even scale.

I think the Century AR's are built with "parts is parts" literally parts-bin stuff. Some of it may be ex-military and used. Some of it may be imported.

I haven't heard any quality reviews either way. The prices I've seen for them are around $600. For about $650 you could get a DPMS Sportical that is 100% new parts, although certainly cutting a few corners (non-chrome-lined barrel [which is common], no shell deflector, no dust cover door).

The one other issue I see is that if there are significant imported parts used, it might be possible to run into 922(r) issues if you start modifying. On most AR's you would have to change almost every part on the rifle to get into 922(r) problems.

As per what my dealer told me, must be surplus Colt made uppers with new barrels. Didn't ask if they were chromed or not. Don't matter to me, I ain't going wading in the Mekong!

The price is just about what I calculated I could do a build for.

Barrels, fire control group, and lower receivers are from DPMS
The barrels are heavy profile, 5.56 chamber, 4140 steel and not chrome lined.
Rest of the parts are surplus.
Bolt carriers are M16 that have been roughly milled back to AR15 configuration.

These aren't bad rifles, but as Z-Michigan said, you can get a brand new AR15
for a comparable price.

I have one. The barrels are chrome/molly. I believe the uppers are Colt. The lowers are made by DPMS and stamped Century. Works flawlessly. There alot of people that don't care for Century but I haven't had any issues.

The "milsurp" aspect actually appeals to me.

My dealer said he has two left. I'm going to go look. If I don't like these, for about $175 more, I can get into a Del-Ton A2.
