Howdy, folks.
I've heard from all over "Teh Interwebz" (the internet) that Century is to be avoided like the plague. Every time I've heard about how Century cuts corners by hiring mentally handicapped primates instead of people to assemble their rifles it's always about Kalashnikovs. How does the C-15 hold up compared to other AR-15's? Would it work as a good start to slowly upgrade into a fun tacticool plinker?
I'm not trying to get a 1/132 MOA at 800 yards varminteer. Right now, I can usually put 9 of 10 shots in a torso sized target with a "Rack-Grade" M16A2 with green tip Lake City at 500 yards prone with a loop sling. Can I expect similar results from a C-15 out of the box?

We are having a discussion about this very rifle on another close by thread.
If you are handy they make a good candidate for your kind of idea.

im not sure what a C15 runs, but you can assemble a rifle on the cheap if you buy a parts kit from say Del-ton and a lower from one of the off brands, like Essential Arms. both company's have real good reputations.

i could build a Del-ton rifle on an EA lower for about 580, or a slap a STAG upper on a completed EA lower for about 620.

It's not just Century's Kalashnikov's that have had issues...it's their FALs and CETMEs, too. And probably some other stuff that I don't know about...

Aside from the canted front site on a WASR I once owned (that was fixed by CIA, inc. under warranty), I've never had an issue with the CIA, inc. products I own. Both of my Yugo AK's are excellent shooters and work perfectly. Just my experience.

Additionally, the surplus firearms I've purchased from Century have always been shipped promptly and arrive as described or better.
I assure you, I'm not a plant for CIA, Inc., just wanted to provide the internet's minority perspective- from someone who actually owns and uses the product rather than third-hand accusations.

I have also had good experiences with the Century Yugo AK that I purchased. I really don't know why so many people bash them.

The bolt action rifles that they don't touch except to add the markings are usually okay.

Because they've turned out some CRAPPY pieces of work in the past. You know the saying...one Oh Sh** can wipe out a 1000 attaboy's? Century has had some royal screwups in the past.

One example I like to trot out is the THR member that bought a couple of Century AKs in 5.45 and 60,000 rds of ammo. They screwed up the delivery and shipped ammo to the wrong place and shipped the wrong caliber AKs, plus were not very cooperative with their customer "service". The guy was in the middle of taking several training courses, and needed the AKs and ammo ASAP. If they screw up a $6000 order, and give the customer trouble, how do you think they treat the regular customer?

Their previous problems have really helped to cement their reputation in the gun world. That said, the AKs that they have been turning out over the past couple of years have been in decent quality...
