I've got an AR-15 build going on right now and have an upper picked out I want for 500 bucks. A buddy of mine's brother is selling his AR for 500 and it's a century international arms. I'm wondering what the better deal would be. I don't know what type of AR he's got, but the upper I want is a Stag arms M4 profile 16" chrome-lined A3 flattop with the detachable carry handle included.

Does anyone have experience with CIA AR's?
Should I get the complete upper or just get a whole rifle?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

CAI ARs are rebuilt from refinished surplus parts, much like most of their guns.

I've heard neutral opinions on them. For the price point you're best off with a Del-Ton rifle kit, which gets you quality new parts for a decent entry rifle.

Regardless, what you're doing now is gonna be much better than any CAI AR. Go with Stag.

The lower I bought and built so far is all DPMS, DPMS lower, Parts kit, and 6-pos. Stock assembly. I want to go with a DPMS upper, but for the same thing as the stag it's about 560, 660 if I bought the carry handle with it. That's why I chose the stag

Stag is a good product. They are CMT's in-house AR brand. CMT is known for making many of other AR companies' stuff.

If you haven't bought it yet, another vendor to look at is Bravo. They sell milspec uppers for good prices. They aren't sold as complete uppers like other vendors, but you can buy the rest of the needed parts and still come up a mere tad more than what a Stag, Bushie, CMMG, RRA, etc. would cost complete.
