So I am about to start work at my new job soon and I plan on getting a new range toy. At first I was thinking of getting a .50 Beowulf upper or a DE in .50AE but after a little thought none of those exited me. So I am looking around at all of the different guns I wouldn't mind owning when I see a picture of a Dragunov and my heart beats a little faster and I think to myself "How freaking cool would it be to own something like that".

I see that Century is importing them and I have an email from them assuring me that they will have more in soon so now I am asking you guys that have one- What do you think?

Well made?
Fun to shoot?
Good value?
Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

I just got one from AIM. One of the 20 that sold real fast.

I have not shot it yet. Had a quite a bit of Cosmo that had to be cleaned out. Couple of the surplus mags had rust on them. And the safety lever was stiff.

But other then those couple of things, the gun is built really nice. The lever is much better when i worked it a few dozen time.

I like it. :D

Man I hope I have the money when they come back in. I have started saving already.

These are one of the rifles that Century only imports, and doesn't monkey with. They are quality, but not Dragunuvs (the US marketers use that name to snatch folks' attention)

These are sold under the name "FPK", "SSG-97", "PSL", "Romak-3", and "Romanian Dragunuv".
They are not a sniper rifle, but a designated marksman rifle. They are nothing more than an upsized AK designed for the 7.62x54r. They are of stamped construction and pretty darn nice.

But they are nothing like a real Dragunuv.

I have one. I would say it is a cool looking fun rifle to own and shoot but not my first choice in a .30 cal semi-auto rifle to target shoot or hunt with. I get about 1.5" groups with mine at 100 yards but can do much better with my AR-10 or M-21. I will say if it tickles your gotta have bone then get it. I have no intention of selling mine.

I personally would not feel comfortable purchasing this rifle sight unseen of the internet. I've seen some pretty rough examples at gunshows/gun shops. Since it's not a milsurp rifle I would expect the thing to be perfect and would have to spend some time searching before spending that much on a supersized AK with cool furniture.

I got one from another source that was assembled by Tennesee Guns, I believe. It did have some issues: The BHO device left off, and a Hammer that was too high. I went back and they gave me the BHO parts and I filed the hammer down and now the rifle works just fine. It is my official SHTF rifle and I have stockpiled a considerable amount of ammunition for a not so comsiderable price. I have heard from several people that only light ball should be used, (147 gr.) Adjust the scope lock so that the lock lever is really hard to close, otherwise, the recoil will knock your scope off. That'd the only bad thing about them, the slow rate they are imported into the country. I was considering getting a second one.
