I recently bought a springfield 1911 a-1 loaded with a stainless finish. I really am not a fan of stainless but it was a the best deal i could find. I have tried to warm up to the stainless but just cant seem to come around to it. I have been thinking about having it refinished with Cerakote. I would have it done by a pro as I want to be sure its done right. What are some opinions on this method of coating over a stainless finish?

We don't use Cerakote but we have applied our TG-1 finish to lots of Stainless firearms. Our TG-1 finish is Gunkote 2400 Series resin applied over Zinc Parkerizing with our own developed and copyrighted process. No, Stainless won't Parkerize but very often, not all of the parts are real Stainless steel. It's actually a popular thing for certain types of agencies. They want the durabilty of Stainless but not the glow-in-the-dark shine so they get the Stainless weapon and then have it finished with something non-reflective. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.
