CETME handguards?

Today I shot my Century CETME for the first time. It functioned flawlessly and the accuracy was good. My problem is that after only 50 or 60 rounds the handguards would get so hot I could barely hold on. It has black plastic handguards and I was wondering if installing wood handguards would help or if there is another solution? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As much as I enjoy my CETME, the "Black Widow" furniture is garbage. A wood furniture set would keep it from getting as hot. G3 polymer handguards(like those available from Robert RTG) have aluminum heat shields and they fit right on.(The wide handguard does not fit so easily, a little Dremel work is required. The buttstock ring for a G3 stock needs slight shaving too.) Now, the legal problems. The pistol grip, buttstock and handguard count as US parts. Too many foreign parts and you're rifle is illegal. Take those off and replace them with non-US parts and you go to jail. Do not pass go. There are several ways around this. You can get US parts, which will require some fitting, from CAI. But they have a $75 minimum.

Or you could get US parts from a retailer like FAC (page3). The Black Widow already has a US cocking handle, if I understand it correctly. (Getting a straight answer from CAI is hard, they have responded to numerous e-mails about Black Widows and US parts, giving the US parts list for the wood stocked CETME. This could get a lot of people in deep crap because the parts used are NOT the same.) Thermold magazines(auctions and such) count as three US parts. I'm not sure if the furniture from JLD (They make the PTR-91) has heat shields but if so that would be a quicker route. They count as US parts.
