Okay folks, I need your advice. I recently picked up a Cetme .308 rifle and it's performance has been great.
The rifle is very accurate and reliability so far has been 100%. All metal surfaces of the gun look absolutely great, and I seem to have avoided the common pitfalls associated with these rifles (Headspace is good...No ground bolt...Sights are dead on...It takes both Cetme and H&K G-3 mags with no trouble at all).
Only problem is....The wood is some of the fugliest I have ever seen on any weapon. It's got a very dark, dirty looking buttstock with scratches, dings, dents etc. everywhere. The handgaurd is quite light in color, appears un-finished, and looks almost new.
This mismatched wood is driving me crazy! My question is this....What should I do about it?
1) Leave it alone, and embrace the ugliness?
2) Purchase a synthetic black stockset?
3) Attempt to re-finish the crappy wood? (Probably not an option in it's current condition)
4) Paint the wood that's on it for a quick fix?
I'm not concerned that the rifle will ever be "valuable" and I don't need a beauty queen (Wouldn't have bought a Cetme if I did). I just can't stand the way the wood looks right now.
What say you? I'm currently leaning towards ordering a synthetic stockset.
