Can any one tell me what the going price for a used Century arms CETME in 308 is? I like the style of rifle, but I have no idea what a good price is.

Sadly I should have bought one a few years ago when J&G was selling them for around $300:banghead:

It seems like most of the ones I see at gunshows and gunstores tend to be around $500, which IMO is more than these rifles are worth. There's a nice one for sale at a local shop here and its selling for $479 and I have no problem passing it by. With all the mixed reviews I hear about them I wouldn't put down that kind of money on one, not unless I could shoot it first.

check out gunbroker.com that seems to always be a good place to find out what people are selling and spending on guns like these.

It's fairly easy to tell if the CETME you're looking at is a good one or a bad one, using your eyeball to look for a ground bolt head and other anomolies and a sheet of copier paper to make shims to test the bolt gap (20lb rag is ~.004").

If it's a good one, $500 is still a a bargain for the utility of the piece.

Hummmm interesting....
The guy wants $300 for it but he lives 3 hours away. So even meeting him to look at it for a close inspection is 1 1/2 hours one way, and with gas prices the way they are.......

Thanks for the input guys. A ground bolt doesn't sound good to me.

You can see a ground bolt head from the magwell - have the seller take a picture of the bottom of the bolt as seen thru the magwell.

I just got this one in a private transaction from a guy on falfiles Bottom one is my PTR91 with a HK91 collapsible stock on it.

Paid $400 and considered it to be a good deal after seeing what is out there these days.

Stainless steel cast receiver, unground bolthead, shiny bore, good bolt gap. I am pleased with the cost/value ratio on this one.

Sigh.....

Beautiful looking rifles. Man...what I wouldn't give for an untouched (by CAI ect) orginal unscathed Spanish CETME. Wouldn't it be nice to have a truly OEM CETME so one would not have to guess or risk?! :banghead:

I think the Cetmes with stainless, cast receivers are the better choice over the stamped receivers, which tend to have more problems.

A used Cetme for $300 and 1.5 hrs. driving is not a bad thing.
See if seller can send pic's of the bolt to find out if it's been ground.
Hell, meet him at a range and try it out if he lets you.
Bring your own ammo!!!!
I love my Cetme, but she to might be going on the "block".
My Saiga 308 does it all the same way(short mag prices) and
does it better at 100 yds.
