Chain Store Handgun Selection

I was in Bass Pro in Grapevine the other day, and I was shocked at how much more expensive they were than my local gunstore. For half the service. Support your local gunstore!

MC Sports. The "local" one (~45 miles away, on the far side of the next city over), has a decent selection and tolerable prices.

Gander Mountain in the same city is pretty darn high, and never seems to have a single one of the loss leader handguns they list in their sale fliers.

If you watch for sales Cabelas will have good prices from time to time. I just bought a nib 642 for $399.
Agreed. And if you have a Cabela's Visa, wait for a promotional flyer offering $100 off a purchase of $500 or more ((includes tax; lesser amounts for lesser purchases) on the card. I got my S&W M&P (new) and 3913 (out of the Gun Room) this way.

i too have always preferred a local shop but now with a family and busy schedule finding the time to get to a range let alone browse the case are hard to come by. But with the chan stores either being near other shopping areas for the rest of my family and/or also carrying other products they are interested in it works out for me better. Much easier to slip away from the family enjoying looking at tents on aisle 9 to the gun counter then to head across town on my own to the gun shop.

as far as chain stores ive found basspro to be a joke on handguns but have found some good specials on remington/ruger/weatherby/marlin long arms on sale. and the military discounts at the end of each month help the price some too. bought 1 rifle and 2 shotguns there.

cabelas had a better handgun selection and also the staff seemed more interested/knowledgable then basspro though prices not much better everyday. but they do offer some good deals as mentioned before. have bought 3 rifles and 2 shotguns there.

gander mountain had a good selection but everyone ive been to seemed to have an attitude of we got we we got and thats good enough so was a walmart that sold handguns to me. never bought anything theres

in previous state sports authority still carried handguns and was just starting to discontinue them. got NIB 686-6 for $429, 60-14 for $319 and 629-6 for $419 so was happy with them during the sale. staff had no clue what they had and was amazed at what poor advise i overheard other customers getting. only firearms ever purchased from them.

sportmans warehouse has been a surprise to me. just bought my M&P340 there for a price Im happy with. saw one in a store across the stateline where i reside and liked it, they called the store in my state 15 miles away and had it put on hold and was all done quickly. have had subsequent dealings with them and they have always been very quick to try and satisfy what i wanted. will be buying things there from now on if they have it. much easier to drop the family next door to finish back to school shopping while i finish back to shooting shopping.

Gander Mtn. is not in the business of selling firearms. Just look at the prices..

Bud's Gun Shop will usually kill any price at a big box store, even after shipping and transfer fees. And it doesn't take that much time to use a cell phone, and call a local guy and see what his cost. You don't have to go in.

In Austin or San Antonio (probably other TX locales) wait for a gun show and check out the prices on standard items.

The Saxet shows usually have some dealer with good prices on standard handguns and long arms.

Bass Pro ccw

The Bass Pro near me offers concealed carry classes. They have a range also.
Their prices are very high for guns and ammunition.
