Usually the USBR target is fired with an optically sighted rimfire unlimited, custom, or sporter rifle from a distance of 50 yards.

On a whim, I started shooting it at 50 feet with my open sighted CZ sporters a few years ago (not peeps, apertures, ghost-rings, etc. — only the factory open sights). The match developed a little following on RFC as an online match.

One of our neighbors, Macy, kept me company:

I forgot my spotting scope, so the little 10X Leopold field glasses saved the day once again. I used them like a monocular to check hits and misses after each shot.

Nice! Straight-up traditional open sights sure have their place in my book. I think it's good to sometimes use only our "original optics."

MY biggest challenge with iron sights is seeing the durn things consistently, which really sux for me because I prefer shooting irons to scopes.........

Nice shooting, Dan.

I have several CZ rimfires, including the 452 UL. I've shot it scoped and irons only, and in either mode it's hands-down the most consistently accurate .22 rifle I've ever encountered. Mine seems to like - as in sub-MOA "like" - about 80% of the rimfire ammo I've shot thru it. Several of those were ordinary non-Match loads. The rest were MOA, or pretty close.

Basics! The fun way. I started all my grand kids on .22s with open sights. They like scopes but I just tell them you 'gotta get the basic "open sights" in your brain and skill set first. I talk to them like adults (clean language always) so they understand this is not play time/horse play.

We do have fun though!

Those targets show some good shooting. That personal challenge type of shooting is really fun and you can do it any range trip. prefect!

Thanks, Mark.

I love my solo range trips, but I do like to have a purpose other than just bustin' caps. Sometimes its a BR target, other times it's a one man silhouette match, but I always have a point, a plan, or anything to be a better marksman when I leave as opposed to the one that arrived.

Reminds me to get my Remington 541X out and some Winchester ammo and shoot at 50 yds. I just got new glasses anyway.
