Chamber round, next round half stripped?

My EMP does something odd. When I chamber a round [for CCW], then go to load the magazine back up [any magazine that I have for it], the next round, as I pull the magazine back out, will be heard being stripped off too, and comes out of the magazine well [obviously] outside the magazine. This happens pretty much every time. Why do you think it does this?

I hope I have explained it well enough.

My Kimber Aegis Pro is doing the same thing. I've only put 300 rounds through it thus far, but I noticed the other day at the range that when I dropped the mag to top her off a round would drop out. Perplexed, I topped off after putting a round in the chamber 5 times and had the next round fall out the magwell 3 out of 5 times. I will say that out of 300 rounds I've only had 2 fail to feeds in the first 100, but nothing since.

I'll be watching, I'd like to know also. I think the 9mm mag doesn't hold the round as secure as the .45 mag. It seems like that second round comes out a bit and dropping a mag pushes the nose up enough to flip it out of the mag lips. Just a thought.

I haven't had any problems during firing sequences with this gun either. None of my other guns do this. It could be that the magazine doesn't have enough tension so the bullets slide to easily on the feed lips.

I bought my first semiauto in 1970 (a little Erma 380 that looked like a Luger. Wish I'd kept it..) and have had a bunch of them that have done that. Long as the gun works properly it ain't no thang.

...

Hmmm, all 3 of my EMP 9mm mags have little tension, as they've loaded all 9 rounds very easy from the get-go (NIB).. Gun now has just over 6000 rounds with no problems. This is with standard loading, 1 chambered, 8 left fyi..

1. Have you, by chance, been loading it 9+1 max load-outs.. ?

Just guessing, but maybe the lips have been slightly stretched-out letting the bullet, by whatever means, to be pulled out.. dunno

Does this happen with just one or all 3 of your mags..? (ok, re-read, all mags) back to question 1.

Last, what type/make ammo.. ?

as I pull the magazine back out,

You have to "pull" your mags out, they just don't pop-out on their own..? IF so, that is not right, as mine just "pop" out when I press the mag release button and, this is also true, on the occasion I test the gun with a max load 9+1

The surface on the bottom of your slide, from the breech face back to the firing pin stop, may be dragging the round forward as the slide closes. Is this surface rough at all? I spose you could chamber a round, then fill your mag, at least rounds won't be falling out.

actually this is completely normal if coupled with what JDGRAY posted. the top round is moving forward as the slide passes over it chambering the preceding round...which is also normal. the top round isn't being released from the mag by an action of the gun, it is being dislodged as the mag is pulled out of the magwell

Naw.... the mag springs are new and tight. It'll quit if ya keep your mags fully loaded and "exercise" them every once in a while. Some people make a mountain out of mole hill...

9mmepiphany, that sounds about right. After the first round is chambered [a fully loaded magazine], the second round is also being half stripped. When I attempt to release the magazine, to make it the 9+1 setup, the half stripped bullet is fully dislodged, coming out of the magazine and emerging after the magazine is pulled out.

It doesn't do it all the time. Just tried it and the second round wasn't half stripped.

Right now, I am using Critical Defense, but may switch to Golden Sabers or Ranger SXTs for the warmer weather.

Think he doesn't own an EMP, as, like I said, from NIB, my 3 mags were "easy" to "hand load" full, much like all my other, older guns mags (with much use) are easy unlike, say, my NIB Px4 40's mags, they were stiff and needed the 2 weeks of being loaded full to finally have the mag springs "relax" to where they still are now, easy to load, and no failures thru 9k rounds..

As mentioned, IF no problems with actual firing/cylcing with mags/gun then load one only then back it up with 9 and reload mag..

What weight did you use and what weight JHP's are you gonna switch too..?

I found that, for whatever reason, my EMP didn't like 134gr JHP but loves 124gr JHP's using Federal Hydra Shoks.. or 115gr if no 124gr in stock..

The Critical Defense rounds are 115gr.

Golden Saber rounds are 124gr.

Ranger SXT rounds are 147gr.

Ok, I tried twice, well beyond break-in, around 3000k mark to use sub sonic 147gr JHP's and had FTFC fully chamber issues each mag full, thru a box of 50 (thinking just not enough ummff per load/shot was the problem). Same with FMJ 147gr

No problems thru 6K rounds with either 124 or 115gr JHP's

OMMV,

Luck,

Hmmmm, I think I will go with the Golden Sabers until I try a box or so of these Rangers.

I have two semi's I shoot regularly. One, the Sig P229 does not move the top round forward and the second, a CZ75 SP-01 does it reguarly. The difference is in the finish on the bottom of the slide. The Sig is like glass and the CZ is rougher, showing machine marks. I haven't got around to polishing it yet as the issue has not been a problem.

It also helps to keep your ammo clean and free of dust/dirt.

i'm thinking the 147gr slugs might be a bit long and heavy for optimal function. i found that the 127gr Rangers pretty much fill the mag:

Interestingly, since I have been using the 124gr. Golden Sabers, the last couple of days, I have not had this issue happen.
