Champion "Model T" Safe

I've found a nice looking Champion model T safe at my LGS, for $697.

The door has a pretty nice thick plate around the door, internal hinges.. .. and it has a fire rating, and I believe about 500lbs.. bolts on all sides of the door etc.

I was told that Champion makes some good stuff, and they made this as the best safe for under $1000 you will find.

Is it a good safe? It was not as "pretty" as the browning, or Winchester, but seemed a lot tougher.

I have a few thousand dollars worth of guns, and will secure it to the floor in a closet, and it will be for the most part hidden.

I know its not "fire proof", and I know its not torch proof.. but.. hidden away, bolted down... with a gun cabinet in the open with a cheap .22 in it..

Are these pretty good?

It's a RSC, as will be just about all under $2000. Bolt it to the wall stud behind it - makes it much harder to break loose.

I know its an RSC.

I was under the impression that Champion makes a fine product, and that this was thier import line, and is a step above and beyond what others have to offer at around the same price point.

In other words, it will stop the smash and grab thief, and nobody is getting without a torch or a lot of know-how, or a lot of time.

Being 475lbs , add some guns, and you're well over $500.. bolted to floor joist, and wall stud..

A little bit of fire protection..

I mean, really... should do the job for me. Plus it will be hidden, and a cheap .22 in a gun cabinet as a spoof.

My main question was, is the model T worth the money, and is it really the superb one in its price range?

I seem to recall watching a film on youtube about a company in South Florida that deals with safes, and was heavily promoting a safe as the best bang for the buck, and showed how it was really superior for its price point.. if I recall, that was the Champion Model T?

For the specifications you have laid down, and the way you are going to use it, it's a fine unit. It will stop any "smash & grab" dirtbag.

Most burglars are smash & grab. Only the most determined thief is willing to risk the time or brought the tools at try to get into a RSC.

Lock your doors & windows (you would be surprised how many forget!)
Have a home security system like ADT, etc. The sign on the outside of your home deters most, if not all smash & grab'ers.
Have a "personal items floater" addendum to your insurance policy (for your guns & wife's jewelry, good art, etc).
Have a RSC & restrict who has access to it.

How much of a "few thousand dollars" of gun values are we talking about here?
A couple of grand no sweat.
But once the gun values exceeds five grand,which is very easy to do,you really need to spend more.
Of course some of it depends on the crime in your area as well as what was mentioned about other layers of security,insurance,etc. you have in place.

That was a Rhino safe.

At this price level, you're just getting variations of the same thing. Minor differences. Nothing groundbreaking that actually bumps you up in protection. You can only include so much steel and gee-whiz in a product for $700.

Well luckily most home burglars dont bring tools like that with them.
And generally when they find a tool like that while burglarizing a non safe owners home they quickly pawn it for dope money and Baloney.
