Starting a new thread to avoid hijiacking Defendant is accused of having 'militia' weaponry.
First off, because I know I will once again be deemed to be attacking individuals, I want to say that is not my intention.
My rant? Numerous threads here end up with someone taking the "well why aren't you out really doing something to change the problems with the laws".
Every time I see one of these "well I walked fifteen miles through the snow both ways to hand out political information" I think to myself "how best to get involved?"
If this question is asked on this forum the person with the query is deemed "too lazy to search". Or is given advice like this:
I found one link under "Political Links" with such great info as "Republicans hold the big job in DC: the Presidency" and " In the aftermatch of the 2006 races, watch for the normal finger-pointing ". Nothing about volunteering or answering the question "how can I help my candidate?"
Also in the library pages are a number of links to "voting systems" information, which while interesting doesn't answer some fundamental questions like "what's a good method of approaching local legislators" or "what are some examples of successful letter writing campaigns?"
Some results of searches. I searched for "political reform" and found these threads:
Anti-gunners: "We NEED more massacres of school-children"
Arrogance at a local gun shop...
Communist Infiltration?
Why I don't vote
we're screwed!
At least "What would it take to make a viable third party?" shows some promise, but still not much in the "how to" section.
"grassroots organization" finds these threads:
Pelosi To Assassinate Free Speech
Gun haiku
Federal Agents, Police Leaders Blast Gun Dealer Protection Bill
Political Action - CHP in National Parks
The last thread does have some specific actions, and there have been a number of these, but perhaps someone with a wealth of political/grassroots experience could take the time to give us all some more general pointers?
Or is politics just a "good ol' boys club", even at this level?
I didn't mean to imply you were doing this. You're right, time and money are issues and the "signal to noise ration" of my searches hasn't been promising.
Well, ok. I can look again.
Agreed. What I resent is asking for advice on how to do these things and being told I'm too lazy to find out.

Bartholomew Roberts said:Color me skeptical after participating here and at TFL for a long time; but people can't be bothered to use the "Search" function before they post the same newslink for the fifteenth time. In forums where we do have sticky notes to discuss certain topics, people routinely ignore the information in those threads. There is a point where you hit diminishing returns and it is no longer productive to spoon feed people information in hopes that they will act on it. At some point, those people have to make an active commitment to seek out information and if they aren't going to do that much, then how much are they going to help you anyway?

Bartholomew Roberts said:Also, I am not trying to paint myself as "more-devoted-to-RKBA-than-thou". Everybody has different obligations and limitations on their time and money and not everybody can give the same amount as a result.

Bartholomew Roberts said:However, you can find good topics on that subject in the THR Libraru as well as by using the Search engine here in L&P.
Well, ok. I can look again.
Bartholomew Roberts said:What I do resent though, is when someone claims that even trying to change things within the system is a lost cause when there is no evidence that they have even tried to do it.
