Gents;
What does it take to change from an ambi safety to a single side? (SA champion 1911)
Can I just buy a single and install it?
Thanks

I was lucky. A Wilson Tactical (narrow extended) single safety went right into my Springfield Ultra Compact. I was prepared to have it fitted but it dropped in and locked the sear as was.

I probably could do it but.
Most likely take it to my local gunsmith and watch him do it. (He lets me from time to time)

You might be able to just take the right side paddle off and leave the left one.

It depends on the design of the ambi safety you have.

All the real safety is part of the left side lever.

The SA ambi is of the usual type with a joint in the middle of the shaft.
Take off the right lever and you lose right side support of the remaining half and also less alignment of the grip safety.
I have seen it done, but do not advise it.

What he could do on the cheap is to grind the right side lever down to a nubbin.
I know a southpaw who did that to the left side lever.
