I like the feel and function of the stock mainspring and cap that came with my Springfield Mil-Spec, but I would like to change the Mainspring Housing for aesthetics. Can I buy any new Mainspring Housing and still use the stock spring and parts that came with my Mil-Spec? I plan to get a retainer pin for it, but I want to keep the same spring and cap.

I don't see why this wouldn't work, but I'd love any info you all could provide.

yes, it's all mil spec

I've changed housings several times and moved the spring and cap. No problems.

To make it right, you need a new standard 23 pound 1911 mainspring & cap, and retainer pin.

The Springfield ILS spring is several coils shorter then a standard spring, and the key lock cap is much longer to make up the differance.

rcmodel,

If I keep my same mainspring, mainspring cap, etc... it should make no different which mainspring housing I am using correct?

Correct if everything is milspec. I am not sure about the SA, but some of the new guns don't have the mainspring retainer pin; the mainspring housing pin is kept in place by friction.
