Anyone know how to do this? I'm thinking about picking up some after-market ones to throw on them, but I don't know how they come off exactly. They've got a button on the bottom, with these little tabs shown in the pic. Sorry in advance for the crappy pics.

It's easy. Get a Glock tool and stick it all the way into the hole in the bottom of the mag. This done, just push foreward on the tool and the base plate will come right off. They are stiff and take a little pressure but it works.

I use channel-lock or large slip joint pliers and pad with paper towel - just go easy as you don't want to over-squeeze them - just enough to clear the tabs. Then push the button on the bottom in and slide the base off.

Believe me, I can't squeeze the mag sides with my fingers to clear those tabs anymore. I used to on older generation mags but newer generation mag liners are stiff!

Yep, it should still work even with the tabs. I've never used a glock tool to take apart a mag, but you can do the same thing with a punch. Just use it to push the button on the bottom of the mag all the way in, and then just push the baseplate off from back to front.

I use a small C-clamp to squeeze the sides in before depressing the retaining pin on the bottom. It is likely just habit from before they had the pin

I use two small flat blade screwdrivers pressed into the notches. The handles of the scrwedrivers will angle away from the magazine body when you do this. Squeeze the handles against the magazine body and this will disengage the tabs so you can then insert a punch in the hole in the bottom and push the bottom plate off.

Eezee peezee, no struggle.

I use a Dremel/saw blade to cut off the tabs. Base plate removal is easy after that. When shooting in competition the mags get dropped in the dirt a lot and must be cleaned after a stage.

I wouldn't do this to a big stick but the shorter mags have NEVER come apart when dropped on the ground.

Push in the button in and press the rear edge of baseplate on a table edge (be sure to not catch the back of the mag body too), and be sure to have your knee under the table edge to keep mag from falling past/below the table edge. Keep in mind parts are under pressure and plan accordingly just in case. After the first removal it's easier as the edges get rounded some. Other methods work too.

We had a bright guy at the range shooting in a USPSA match with some off brand floor plates in his Glock. He left the inserts out or the reassembly process. Those are the little plates that go between the spring and floor plate. They have a little pin molded into them that helps hold the floor plate in place. He was firing a string and the floor plate popped off. The spring shot out followed by all the ammo in the mag, lol. This happened three times before the shoot was over. What an ass.

I use a pair of channel lock pliers to squeeze the mag body together slightly, and a punch to pry the base plate off. Works every time.

I use a pair of klein pump pliers and the leather pads (read: leather scraps from an old belt) that I use on my vice so that I don't mar the finish. I don't use a glock tool, either. Just a standard punch small enough to fit in the hole works for me.

To each his own...

I only need to use a clamp for the subcompact mags. The rest seem to come off just fine by pushing on the punch or Glock tool.
