Hi all,

I just brought home a new Glock 17 and couldn't be any more excited about it! Paid $500 OTD for it. I was originally trying to hunt down a NIB OD green 17, but I didn't want to pay more than $600 and wasn't having any luck finding one at that price. I also just found out that Glock now makes factory threaded barrels for the 17, 19, and 21! All of a sudden the color of the frame wasn't so important to me. :D Naturally, I put the money I saved towards the threaded barrel. I don't have it yet, but it should be here in a few days.

I've owned a few of the compact and sub-compact Glocks over the years, but this is my first full-size Glock pistol. Here is a crappy cell phone pic of it next to my carry gun (26):

Now you can't tell from the pic, but the 17 has the more reflective "frying pan finish" that most people like, whereas the 26 has a slightly duller, matte-looking finish. I thought all of the newer Glocks are supposed to have the duller finish, but apparently not. The serial number on my 26 starts with "R" and on the 17 it starts with "T," and from what I understand the Glock serials are supposed to be sequential. I don't know if this means they went back to the old finish again or what.

A few other things:

- I noticed there is no longer a half moon cut-out at the bottom of the front strap. When did they decide to do away with this?

- All of the NIB 17s there had smooth triggers and not the serrated trigger. I know the smooth triggers are available as OEM aftermarket, but I didn't know they were shipping on new guns. Is this also new or have 17s always had the smooth trigger from the factory?

- Finally, I noticed the bottom of my trigger is making contact with the trigger guard as I pull it back. Well, actually it's the trigger safety button poking through the trigger as I depress it and the safety button itself is making contact with the trigger guard. This is making the trigger pull feel a bit gritty and I don't like it. On my 26 w/ the serrated trigger there is at lest 1mm or so of clearance at all times. Any ideas on why this is happening with the 17? Do you think the problem would go away if I swapped the smooth trigger out for a serrated one?

Thanks in advance!

I think the 17's have always had smooth triggers. I know the 26 needed to be sold with a "target" trigger to meet the ATF's point system.

All new Glock's are sold with the matte finish. I'm sure the finish change point was different for different models due to how much stock of the old finish components they had of each model left.

I didn't know Glock made threaded barrels. I'll have to check that out.

I thought all new Glocks were being sold with the matte finish too, but clearly this isn't the case as my new 17 has the slick and shiny finish. The test fire date was 6/2012, so it's just about as new as they get.

As for the Glock OEM threaded barrels, it was news to me too. I don't think many people even know they exist. These guys have them for a very good price: http://www.dbackpolice.com/

I'd file the safety bar down a little to make it match the contour of the trigger face anyway, no reason you can't shorten it a hair to correct that drag while you're at it.

The compact and subcompact Glocks need the serrated triggers to make the import point system, but you'll like the smooth face one better, especially if you curve up that safety a little.

Is left handed threads the norm?

Too bad they don't have one for the G34. I'm looking to get one with a compensator before too long. I don't like the lone wolf logo and the KKM are kinda spendy.

Lone Wolf will blind mark the barrels if you ask for it, I think it's an extra ten dollars.

Not sure if they are the "norm," but I did read the following from the Impact Guns website:

"The Tundra is available with either the popular 1/2-28 threads used in the USA or the metric M13.5x1(LH) thread used on European factory threaded barrels."

I install the smooth triggers in all my Glocks that don't come with them. Have a bunch of threaded barrels for G21s, but have only used the threaded barrels with the compensators that came with them. Wouldn't mind having a suppressor for my nightstand G17, though...might just go ahead and start that process, come-to-think-of-it.

My first Glock was a G21; first 9mm was a 2nd Gen G17, which I bought used during that idiotic ban. After about 10k rounds, slide developed a small crack in front of the ejection port. Crack caused pistol to shoot way left. Glock replaced slide under warranty, with all internals, except the barrel, and sold me a complete Gen 3 lower for $43. Happy with the "new" G17.

Your 17 is a Gen 3. The Gen 4 pistols have the new finish.
Tell me something I don't know.

Actually, there are plenty of gen 3 guns out there with the new matte/gen 4 finish. My gen 3 Glock 26 is one of them.
