Charges filed in Yosemite wildfire
Prosecutors in Maricopa County, Calif., said they have filed criminal charges in connection with the 34,000-acre wildfire that destroyed about 30 homes outside Yosemite National Park
David Mosher, 29, started the blaze in July while target shooting using bullets with steel jackets, District Attorney Bob Brown said. He said such bullets are a known fire hazard.
Mosher was charged with reckless or negligent conduct and possession of unregistered assault rifles, both misdemeanors, Brown said. He said Mosher has said he was aware of the area's fire danger but has denied knowing that he was shooting steel-jacketed ammunition.
Reporting on this incident a couple of weeks back indicated that the district attorney's office was unlikely to file charges in the case.
